swimming with engagement ring on?

I read somewhere not to wear engagement ring in pool and I have a pool party tomorrow. I would take it off and put in my bag but there are a few people that I don't know and feel funny just leaving a 9K ring somewhere....I can leave it home but wanted to show it off to some that haven't seen it...

Hm so here's a somewhat-related horror story about losing the ring. I never wore jewelry before and went on a business trip and when I went through airport security I took my ring off thinking all metal had to come off. I stuck it inside my tennis shoe (again, so dumb). When I got my shoes on the other side, no ring. I was PANICKING!!! Luckily I mostly kept my cool on the outside but secretly I was already trying to figure out a way to pay for a new ring and not tell my mom and fiancé... Thank god, after about five minutes, it was found on the floor. Security gave me a serious talking to and said NEVER take jewelry off when going through the security line. Who knew? Well, I guess jewelry-wearers might. Now I am more careful with it.

My ring is a little loose, so I'd never swim with it on. I keep it hidden at home or locked in our car if we are on our friend's land.

Don't wear your ring in the pool. The chlorine will mess with your ring and it could easily slip off. Not even worth the hassle. If you are uncomfortable it sitting in your bag leave it at home. Take a picture to show those that haven't seen it. But it is not worth the heartbreak if something happens to it just to show some friends.

I'd be more worried about it slipping off than it getting ruined. I never swim with mine on.

I wear mine to swim all the time...lake, pool, ocean, I have had no problems at all but like Kerri, my sparkler fits like a glove and it's also insured (I would be devastated if I did lose it though) so I'm not worried at all :-)

We're on our honeymoon right now, so I was worrying about this. I've been wearing both rings in the pool and the ocean. They fit snugly enough that they won't fall off.

I know its safe - chlorine wise but I don't wear it, just in case a diamond would fall out or it would slip off my finger and get sucked into the drain, then its gone forever! I'd wear it then put it in your car - its always fun to show it off Smiley smile

I get my ring checked every 6 months like you are supposed to to make sure the diamonds are still good, but its a big fear of mine, never know

I have worn mine at the beach and in the pool. No issues so far.

If your ring is white gold chemicals in the pool may wear down the rhodium plating of the ring, causing it to need to be re-dipped more frequently.

Don't worry about it-- I've been wearing mine 24/7 for 15 years with no problems-- in the pool, in the shower, at the beach-- since it's attached to my wedding ring, it seems absurd to take it off-- I'd feel like I was trying to look single (but that's just me)!

I don't like wearing it in the pool. I typically take both my e-ring and w band off/leave it at home while swimming in the ocean/pool. It just makes me feel better. I have the biggest fear of losing a diamond in the water or something which is completely irrational Smiley smile

It really depends on preference, but your ring will most likely be fine.

Mine is a little loose so I take it off for stuff like showering, swimming etc.
