Sunscreen on the big day?

FutureMrsL, on May 22, 2013 at 12:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Is anyone wearing sunscreen on your wedding day? I am seriously the palest person I know and just get burnt so easily (yes, even after about 10 minutes in the sun.) I hate wearing sunscreen though since it smells, is greasy, makes my skin shiny, and just gets all over everything. My ceremony may or may not be outside depending on the weather (yes, I would get burnt in that short amount of time,) and of course we may be outside for pictures as long as it's not raining.

Is anyone on here wearing sunscreen for their wedding? Do you have any recommended products? If you are already married, did you wear sunscreen or get burnt? I feel like it all could be a disaster whether or not I wear sunscreen -- if I do wear it, I do not want the grease getting all over my dress and everything, but if I don't wear it, I don't want to look like a lobster for the rest of the day. I hope to start trying the different products this summer during my outside activities.

My MUA told me to not to wear it, because it would screw up my makeup. The finishing powder I am using has SPF in it, which will help. Also my wedding is in the evening, so it is not a big deal anyway.

Are you wearing any makeup? Does the makeup have SPF?

I usually wear sunscreen everyday, but will not on my wedding day bc apparently it will make you look bad in photos.

Is there anything else you can do to protect your skin? Maybe using a parasol between pictures and having some kind of canopy over you and FH during the ceremony?

The number one thing about sunscreen is re-apply every 20 minutes. I like the Banana Boat sports 30 spf. I don't feel like it's too greasy.

But, if your ceremony and pictures are outside, and you get burnt that easily, you really want to put it on, because you don't want to be burnt for your pictures or burnt and blistered with sun poisoning for your honeymoon!

Thanks, ladies! I will be wearing makeup, but not sure yet on whether or not it will have SPF. Besides my face, I'm worried about my arms and shoulders.

I heard SPF can cause a "flash back" in photos and can cause you're face to look really white.

I won't need sunscreen on my actual wedding day but one of FHs groomsmen and I chatted this morning and i made him PROMISE that they would all lather up on the Sunscreen the day before since they're planning on going to a football game. I don't want a bunch of raccoons in my pictures!! Lol

I will probably have to because I'm like you. Ten or fifteen minutes on a sunny day and I turn into a lobster. I like the neutrogena ultra sheer stuff. I only have o put it on ever hour or two, even when im working in the marsh (yes, marsh), it absorbs really quickly and doesnt feel greasy, and smells less than a lot of sunscreens.

I try to schedule most of my weddings for shortly before sunset -- not just because I burn easily, but because the temp is a little cooler, the lighting is better for photos, there is less chance of rain (we get afternoon thunderstorms in the summer), and the crowds thin out at the beach.

We use the best dry finish sun screen for the same reason. We are WHITE and melanoma is a big issue here. http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Gate-Sunscreen-Lotion-4-Ounce/dp/B001ECQ3R2 you can find it cheaper at drvita but make sure it is dry finish no matter where you get it from. No smell it works so much longer than the normal stuff does. Normally I use it once a day working on the farm. I would use it more if I was at the beach I think.

Redhead here...I don't know how it smells (I can't smell from surgery I had at 5) but Bullfrog...seriously the only stuff that works for a long time and gives me no burn. Found out recently. That it's also what professional baseball players use (which makes me question the smell lol). I would definately do a trial run and talk to your MUA/photographer too!
