Stressing about venue

Hailee, on September 16, 2019 at 3:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 2
Hi guys, so I'm gonna go on a little rant, and PLEASE let me know if if being over dramatic.

So my fiance and I put the deposit down, and signed the contract on our venue 6 weeks ago. We still have yet to receive a copy of our signed contract as promised, even after asking a couple times. Everytime I ask, they say they have been busy but will asap, but never do. Whenever I ask questions about the venue I have such as different rules, what we can have etc (since I dont have the copy of the contract! 🙄) I get left on read. But here's the kicker, the owner of the venue is my fiance's best friend.

Our wedding isn't for another 9 months, but I'm getting impatient and frustrated. I'm wanting to ask for our deposit back, and just have the wedding at my fiances family's farm. My fiance doesnt want any hurt feeling between him and his best friend, but I feel like this is a breech of contract and not a way to run a business, doesnt matter if its friends or not.

Anyway, how should I go about asking for a refund without being too harsh?

Do you still have a copy of the original contract that was sent to you? Or were you hoping for the final copy which shows modifications/additions/etc? It sucks that the venue owner isn't being very cooperative and that would certainly be a red flag but not necessarily a deal breaker or breach of contract, some venues are worth the headache. That being said, if they're already not responsive this early on, it's likely that behavior will continue through the planning process and only become more frustrating as your wedding day approaches. Since the venue owner is known to you and your FH, it might be worth trying to reach out to them through your FH. You might still be entitled to your deposit or a portion of it and you can move forward with the more stress-free venue.

    Hey Hailee!

I'm really sorry to hear about this situation. It's a tricky one, especially since the owner is a friend of your SO.

I would recommend you try again to get a copy of the contract and see what it stipulates about canceling and how this would be dealt with. It's likely you may lose your deposit, however, it would be best to confirm.

Has your SO reached out to try toget a copy of it? Do you think he/she may respond quicker to them?
