Stolen Money

Renata, on April 2, 2014 at 9:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 49

So we checked the wedding gifts and we were missing gifts from 3 guests, one of them was my best friend. I called her to verify that she had given one to begin with cause i was concerned (not a pleasant conversation to have) turns out she had given a check made out to "cash" (which is the worst thing in the world to do). She put a stop on the check. Today, someone tried to cash it.... so now I know for sure that all 3 gifts were stolen (most likely during the ceremony). So sad to know people would do this. We are going to do our best to investigate it.

Advice: Never take your eyes off the money box. Make sure the box locks and make sure you have a safe place to keep the money during the wedding and count envelopes before.

    Wow that's unbelievable!

I already have a plan for the card box because some of FH's family is suspect. So sad that we have to do these things when we are supposed to be surrounded by our loved ones.

I can't imagine how awkward of a conversation it must be when you ask someone if they gave you a gift.

My friend actually thanked me for telling her right away. She will probably have to open a new bank account.

Why would she have to open a new bank account?

Rebekah- probably opening a new one just to be on the safe side since the check has the routing and acct number on there. if the person has the balls to steal the check they might have the balls to pay for stuff online with that information.

And I JUST finished talking to the event coordinator at our reception hall about this concern. She promised to keep a member of the wait staff near the table and that she would personally take it to the safe in her office after cocktail hour. Of course this makes her accountable for any missing money/gifts, but that's better than just leaving it "under the table" as my aunt suggested.

What a way to put a damper on such an amazing day.

Wow that sucks but I don't think I would ask anyone if they got me a gift.

Wow that's the last thing I'd worry about in my wedding day, I thought I've read everything in here but I'm really surprised! I'm thankful someone create this page so we can share some information and be aware! Thank you and hope you find out who did that.

Dont be quick to judge. It could have been anyone of the servers, bartenders or employee of the venues. Id talk to the event coordinator.

I've heard this before. That's why we are placing the gift table & card box up front by our sweetheart table.

When I was a kid and went to a cousins wedding, someone stole an entire roaster full of roast beef! My poor and embarressed uncle had to go around to the family and ask us to go easy on the roast beef and why. He was both pissed and humiliated. I will have people designated to watch it and the venue offers to lock it in the office so far into reception.

At my FSIL's wedding someone stole my sunglasses and an empty clutch purse I had "for show" while me and FH were frantically trying to dry off chairs when it began to rain at her outdoor ceremony. I put them under my FH's dress jacket and it was on one of the seats we were trying to reserve for grandma. We went to every table during the reception and no one had any clue. I have my suspects because it certainly was not anyone from the venue out there trying to help us in the rain. My FFIL freaked out when we told him (he was ANGRY) and demanded that we get someone to also watch her gifts. Me and FH ended up being that person for the majority of the night.

A cousin of mine had almost $400 in gift cards stolen at her bridal shower that took place at an empty church (save for the 85 year old female caretaker) and she had only 17 guests. At one wedding we went to someone stole the bartenders tip jar. At another someone stole a WHOLE CHAFING DISH complete with the Sterno can - it had contained mashed potatoes.

Wow. That's terrible. No matter how much you think it won't happen. You can never control employees of venues or the plus ones of guest. Or wedding crashes that what ruled out my venue choices if there were mutiple events under one roof we ruled it out.

Lol, my FH used to wait tables back in the day and they'd "steal" food anytime he was working a banquet. BUT, that was only because they rarely had enough break time to eat a decent meal so they'd nibble here and there.

At the end if anything was left over, it was fair game. As long as my guests have food, I don't mind the staff getting a taste. Rather someone eat it than it go to waste. Worst part of a wedding is seeing sooo many half eaten plates. Possibly hundreds of $$.....in the trash
