So we checked the wedding gifts and we were missing gifts from 3 guests, one of them was my best friend. I called her to verify that she had given one to begin with cause i was concerned (not a pleasant conversation to have) turns out she had given a check made out to "cash" (which is the worst thing in the world to do). She put a stop on the check. Today, someone tried to cash it.... so now I know for sure that all 3 gifts were stolen (most likely during the ceremony). So sad to know people would do this. We are going to do our best to investigate it.

Advice: Never take your eyes off the money box. Make sure the box locks and make sure you have a safe place to keep the money during the wedding and count envelopes before.

Terry, typically people put cards in a basket or box when they walk into a venue. Not during a meet and great.

I"m not shocked. same thing happened at my cousin's wedding. they passed around a canister to put money it in rather than having people hit dishes to make people kiss.

my grandpa put a 100 dollar bill in it, and it disappeared. far as we know the 'friend' that had the job of MC was the only one that had access to it. it was wrapped, and once it was open that would have been obvious. I was in the room with it when he counted it, and I know it wasn't opened until he opened it.

once he was done he handed it straight to my cousin's husband.

why the MC was counting it, I don't know. think he just decided to bring the job onto himself. :/

btw- if they know someone tried to cash it, any way of them checking the cameras to tell who it was?

Wow.. I cant say I have never heard of this being done before. Im thinking Im going to tell my FH to make a card box at work. This way its welded shut and than i can decorate it myself. None will be able to leave with it because it will be heavy and you wont be able to miss it. After a certain time Im going to bring my gifts and card box to my truck and van and lock them. The truck you have to use all your muscle to get into it. Since we have a lift on it, and my van is a stow and go.

I ask cause at my tenth anniversary party of my first marriage. As people started coming up to me and now ex husband. They congratulated us and gave cards. Out of 150 guests almost all of them did this. And we had a beautiful custom card box. But people wanted to make sure they said congrats and hand to us. I have never been to a wedding where I just toss it in a basket. And I've been to many weddings. Maybe it's a New York thing. To hand to couple.

People stealing at weddings is way more common than you think. Last year, there was a guy who would walk into hotels and take whole card boxes while people were busy celebrating. It was all over the news. Our staff has no need to steal food as we provide meals for them. People take food. We have had guests walk into the kitchen and try to take things. If you take care of rentals yourself, they usually offer insurance because of breakage and theft.

When I worked at a wedding hall in college a server would steal cards during our baked Alaska dance... He got caught red handed and the brides uncles followed him to the car and beat the hell out of him... When the cops came there were 500 plus empty cards in his truck so he had been doing it for a while... So it's not just guests you have to worry about
