Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue. Whats yours?

Kentucky Bride, on July 19, 2010 at 1:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

How many of you are going to keep up with the traditional rhyme? For my Something old, I am wrapping my great grandmothers favorite handkerchief around the base of my bouquet. My something new would definitely be my dress, shoes, and everything else I wear. My something borrowed is pretty neat. One of my bridesmaids and closest friend is from Armenia and she moved here about 10 years ago. For my something borrowed, I am wearing the tiara she wore for her wedding in Armenia. Lastly my something blue will probably be part of the undergarments because my colors are pink and black. So what are your thoughts and ideas for this tradition?

Something old = My great grandmother's necklace

    Something New = My dress

Something borrowed = The necklace is technically my mom's, so I'm borrowing it.

Something blue = My FH's aunt handmade me a blue garter (it's their family tradition, started by FH's late grandmother).

And FH's aunt also gave me a sixpence for my shoe.

Old = My Mother's Ring Given to her by her Mother

New = Dress and Everything Else!!!

Borrowed = My Dad's Convertable for the day! Does this count???

I am having trouble finding an appropriate blue. My colours are green and I already have a garter, jewelry, shoes, and undergarments.

With my Dodger-themed wedding not being so traditional..there are def traditions that I do want to incorporate into my wedding..and this is one of them. NEW: For my something new...it's my dress that my mom bought me.

BLUE: My shoes my MOH bought me.

BORROWED: My sister's petticoat she wore on her wedding last year (hopefully it goes with my dress though...gotta check)

OLD: Can it be your ring??? Mine is an heirloom that's been passed down 3 generations before me.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe

That's how it's supposed to go to complete the "tradition"

I found a place that sells them online, that aren't that expensive, but some people just use a quarter or penny or something...

I'm not sure what my old & borrowed are going to be =0(

I don't really have anything... I've got time to figure it out though!

    New: Dress

Old & Borrowed: my mother's earrings

    Blue: my shoes

I've thought about the "sixpence in her shoe," but I'm wearing open-toed shoes, and I'd lose the coin! I'm thinking of incorporating it in somehow, though, just not sure where...

Old - white gold and pearl brooch that that belongs to my mom. i'm going to pin it on the handle of my bouquet

new - my dress, jewelry, veil, etc...

borrowed - an opal ring my aunt wore when she married my uncle. they were young and couldn't afford to pay off the actual wedding ring before they got married.... although i think she may have intended it to be a gift, so maybe it's not borrowed. and i'm not positive that my mom doesn't expect the brooch back, so i guess i have a backup. Smiley smile

    blue - my shoes

michelle s - you can tape the sixpence to the bottom of your shoe. if there's a heel, just tape it to the part that doesn't get walked on. or tape it to the inside of the shoe.

My old and borrowed are the same thing--my mother's veil, which she wore when she married my birth father 40 years ago. (He died when I was young.) I am also wearing a cameo bracelet that he gave her for their first Christmas together.

My new is my dress, but more meaningfully, a triple strand of pearls that my dad (adoptive father) gave me for Adoption Day this year. I wasn't planning on wearing a necklace, but it's perfect!

My blue is my engagement ring, which is a sapphire Smiley smile
