For those unfamiliar: the conference for the engaged is a part of the Pre-Cana to help prepare ourselves for the sacrament of marriage in the Catholic Church. You have a choice to attend one of two options: The 8 hour long 1 day conference –or- the weekend retreat. We decided the 1 day conference would best & after months of waiting we finally went through it!

I’ve heard a mix of reviews from other people who attended in the past, most came out saying that it’s very boring and prepare to write notes to each other the entire time. We were both surprised that we actually really enjoyed the conference and we got a lot out of it! :o) The day was broken up into segments. Two couples and a Priest spoke about the different segments. Then a Psychiatrist came in and spoke about communication. The Priest was amazing, the two couples were a lot of fun to listen too and the Psychiatrist was hilarious & very insightful!

I know that the $260 is reasonable for a weekend away for two people, but it's not like this is a trip we would voluntarily take if it wasn't required. How much did it cost you guys? And how much does the one-day session cost?

@HoneyB: Don't be nervous! I think most people have wonderful experiences. Just take it all in stride - make sure to write notes about topics so you two can discuss the answers privately. In our experience we left and totally forgot talking points so we bought the book "1000 questions to ask before you get married" http://www.amazon.com/1001-Questions-Ask-Before-Married/dp/0071438033 It basically goes over the same topics & is GREAT for discussions. :o) It even goes more in depth from what we've been through with FOCCUS & the Engaged Encounter

@Katie Bug: $260 is around the same price that would've been the retreat. It was $80 for the conference. I was nervous about the retreat & with our crazy schedules it wouldn't have worked out but I wish we would've done it so we could go more in depth with some of the topics they went over. They basically cram all the info in an 8hr period. The conference was amazing though!! If you can't afford the retreat - the conference is awesome.
