"Sneaking out" during reception

Lucy, on March 27, 2015 at 1:28 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 43

Has anyone been to a wedding where the bride and groom sneak away sometime during the reception to squeeze in some extra pics with their photographer? (At the reception venue, but maybe for purposes like different lighting, scenery, etc. ) I had never heard of this until recently and I wondered what you all thought of this etiquette-wise.

I plan on doing it! Our venue is half indoor half out. It's really hard to explain without seeing it but I really want pictures outside by the bonfire when it gets dark so my FH and I will be having a 15 minute photo session halfway though the reception!

Our photographer came and grabbed us unexpectedly around 7pm for a few more pics. Ended up getting some of the best pics of the day! We only disappeared for about 15min.

I know some people do it to go get sunset pics, but I've personally never seen it and won't be doing it. I want to spend as much time as I can with my guests that took the time out of their schedules to come celebrate with us and that I spent all this money on, especially the reception because that's our biggest chunk of our wedding budget.

Definitely! FH and I do a little wedding photography and we always like to get a fun night shot, they end up being really cool! It is definitely worth it plus it gives you a little alone time again with your new husband/wife. Usually when we do it we don't want to take a ton of their time because we know the bride and groom want to visit and dance, but it really can be some of the best pics of the night. We'll set up the shot, get the lighting perfect, then have the bride and groom stand where they need to be, do a few fun poses then they can get back to what they were doing. It usually only takes about 10 minutes. However we do always ask the couple before the wedding if they'd be up for it.

We have told our photographer to come and get us as often as they want. Photos are a big priority for us since we do photography ourselves. And we're also having a firework show, so we'll have night shots during that.

The shot below is from our most recent wedding where we did this (they rented a lamborghini so we wanted to show that off) and we loved the shot.

I was so thinking dirty and thought the title was for a post about sneaking away to start the honeymoon early. Lol. We won't be doing any sneaking away. I plan on getting all out shots before hand and during the reception with our friends and family.

We are having an early sparkler exit, but we won't actually be leaving. Everyone will get onto the shuttle while FH and I sit alone for just a few minutes to absorb the day and get last minuet pictures together. Then we'll get on the shuttle with our guests and go to the hotel/casino after party.

I definitely want to do this! And I bet it happens way more often than anyone would think...I mean, who actually keeps tabs on the bride and groom throughout the whooole reception? Most people probably don't even realize they were gone for 15 min. Ideally, they're got their heads buried in their delicious food!

We're going to sneak off with one of our photographers for 15 minutes for some extra photos. The photo time between the ceremony and reception is going to be super rushed, so we want to make sure we get some extra ones.

Our photographer suggested it. Our venue is on a beautiful secluded lake, so she wants to steal us away to get sunset photos.

I've definitely seen it for sunset photos. Our photographer said he might pull us away for a few mins to get some photos done. I don't think it's a big deal.

I plan on doing this for sunset shots! Our ceremony is at 5 and dinner starts around 6, so we should hopefully get to eat a little something first.

Any wedding I stood up in, they B&G did this...and if they did at any of the weddings where I attended as a guest only, I didnt even realize they were gone.

We're totally sneaking out for sunset photos on the golf course!

I think it is fine if you are talking 15 minutes or so. Any more than that and I think you are away too long. People spent their time and money to attend your reception so I think leaving for half an hour or an hour is way too much, but certainly understand sneaking out for a few minutes.

I've never noticed but I'm sure it happened! We plan to sneak off for sunset pictures, and our photographer told us it would take 15-20 minutes. I doubt anyone will notice we are gone.

My ceremony is at 5:30 so I might be able to get sunset pictures in during cocktail hour...if not we'll step out during the reception for a little.

Yes, we are sneaking off for a few minutes. Our photographer already asked us if this was okay to do so we are expecting it...and for the same reasons as the above posts --- different lighting and time of day.
