At minimum just assign tables so everyone has some general direction.

We’re assigning tables. Our guest count is 35-40.

We are assigning tables and we have 21 guests. It just makes it easier for everyone.

To make it easier, assign tables. If you don't, it will most likely be a mess no matter how many people are there. With assigned tables, you can keep couples together and what not.

We had 55 guest and assigned seating. It was relatively easy since it was 90% family. We gave a map of the meals to the venue (restaurant)

Assign tables. I went to a 40ish person wedding last summer that didn't and it felt like the first day of middle school in the cafeteria- no one knew where to sit, people were saving seats (sometimes for people that had already sat at another table!), and we struggled to find seats together. Please don't so this to your guests. Assign tables because it's easier for them, and people can always (and will!) mingle after dinner.

I went to you weddings in the last month that had around 100-300 guests. No seating chart/assigned table at either wedding and it was totally awkward. Please at least assign tables.

I went thru this too. I'm assigning tables. It will help avoid confusion and insure there aren't gaps at tables where people are split up

I just don't get this question. It shouldn't even BE a question. If you have more than 1 table of 10 at your wedding, assign tables. If you are doing Tuscan seating (that's what those long tables are called), assign actual seats. Period.

Unless there is only 1 table, at least assign tables.

Assign tables. Honestly, I never see the point in assigning actual seats, but you can't have 40 guests wandering around wondering where to sit.

We're only having 6 tables and was only going to assign tables not seats but since we're doing plated dinner the venue has to know who is where.

Assign tables. Even at a small wedding, it is absolute chaos without table assignments.

Yes, definitely assign tables at minimum. Same rules apply whether 40 or 400 guests imo

We had 90 guests and did not do a searing chart. The tables were set and people say wherever they wanted to. Everything worked out just fine.

Assigned tables for sure. With 40 people it won't take much time but will make a huge difference

My sister had about that sized wedding with absolutely no assigned seats. I'd say for sure assign tables but if you don't make sure to reserve tables for parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. The people who would be upset if they got bumped to the back unable to see.

I don't understand the hostility in your comment. We're all just here to learn. Some of us are less formal/traditional and just want what's best for our guests (even if we don't quite know what that is because we don't have a lot of wedding experience).
