Small wedding advice!

Future Mrs. Keil, on March 16, 2017 at 12:21 PM Posted in Planning 1 18

I've been seeing so much about small weddings on here, after sitting down with FH we decided to cancel our large venue and scrap the guest list. Immediate family for both sides come to 19. After FH and I, 21. After a friend or two, we're looking at about 25 people. I couldn't be more excited!

My question is did anyone with a small wedding have a DJ? I have one booked, but I don't know if I should cancel or keep him for dances and so fourth!

I'm sure it depends on where the reception is as well! Just looking for ideas!

We're thinking about the same thing. Our guest list will be around 30, and we're debating between having a DJ or just playing an iPod through the venue's sound system. I don't see our guests dancing the night away, and the venue closes at 10:30 PM anyway. But if your guests will enjoy a lot of dancing, the DJ will be more fun.

We are having 28 guests and won't be having a DJ or dancing. From what I've seen on here, that's pretty common with a small wedding. It depends on the atmosphere you're going for; I'm perfectly content with a dinner party vibe. Our reception will also be on the shorter side, and we have an older crowd that I don't see doing much dancing. There's a few factors in deciding if it's the right choice for you.

Pros about having a dj is if there is any problems they have a back up solution. They also are good for announcements. They're more experienced and good at getting the crowd pumped

However having a spotify playlist/cd you get the music you want and don't have to pay as much. I mean the wedding seems small enough that like you don't necessarily need one. If you do diy try to have a back up incase of issues.

We are having a small wedding (25 guest) and the reception will be at a restaurant so no DJ or dancing for us.

Thank you all! I'm looking forward to this! I'm waiting for a few emails back from different places but for now, I won't cancel the DJ until I hear back!

I changed all of our plans a few months ago. We originally had 200 people and now is 30. We're still doing the church ceremony and then we rented out a local restaurant for dinner. No DJ or dancing. Just dinner. Right now we are deciding what to do about cake or cupcakes

We are topping out at 25 people, pretty much all family and doing our "reception" in a restaurant. We may have a spanish guitar for background music but probably not. No DJ or dancing but we are planning on going to another couple of places after dinner if people are wanting to so they can dance there if the mood strikes them.

We did a smaller wedding with 40 guests and we had a DJ. Guests danced all night. I think a lot depends on your crowd.

We're having a dinner party with about the same amount of guests. We decided to forgo a DJ as our guests aren't really the dancing type. We're focusing on great food and drinks for the guests instead.

I think a DJ would still be great if you know there will be dancing.. otherwise an iPod would be fine...

Small wedding of about 33 here. We will have a short reception and no dancing. We'll put together a playlist and go for the dinner party vibe. No big dances or introductions that will require an MC. We will also be stopping by a few places after dinner in case anyone wants to have more of a party atmosphere.

I think my friends would be super bored if we didn't have a DJ, so even though our guest list is only 40, there will be music and dancing. Our friends are all about the nights out and flailing, though. If most of the attendees were older, we probably would just have a dinner party and go out later.

We love, love, love our small weddings. I think the decision to have a DJ or not depends on your crowd. Most of our intimate weddings have acoustic musicians, pianists, jazz guitars or something along those lines.

    Congrats!

We are doing a small wedding (around 30-35), and I did hire a DJ to whom I am giving a very specific list of songs to match the small wedding vibe. Lots of jazz standards and more mellow stuff, with dance songs (Motown etc.) in case people want to dance. I guess it is a know-your-crowd thing... my kids and I love to dance and I think many of our guests will too.

    Yay small weddings!
