I'm planning on having a small wedding also. First off I get stage fright and so I only want the people I am closest to to be there. I think a small wedding is perfect for me and I wouldn't let anyone talk me out of it.

I am! This is the second go around for both of us and what I REALLY wanted was to elope to Sandals and stay there for two weeks. FH wanted a wedding, so we compromised Smiley smile

I really wanted to elope but my parents really wanted to be there and my fh wanted a big wedding. So now we're having a small wedding of 20 with our wedding party, parents and siblings (and all their dates)

We had 52 people at our wedding. It was wonderful!! We found a place that had a maximum of 80 seats. We only invited immediate family, aunts and uncles. If someone said anything about how small it was we said (very politely) that it was our wedding and we were paying for it so we were doing it our way.

We are having a small wedding too. less than 70 people and I think that's okay. We wanted to keep it just close friends and family- people who really care about us and want to be there.

Well, one argument could be that you start planning a large wedding, you put the deposits down for some things, and then ultimately you end up deciding it isn't what you want, so you finally take a stand and change direction and lose some of those deposits... basically that's what's going on with me right now. We always wanted a small, intimate wedding and were discouraged to do so, mostly because we also wanted to do it destination style, so we gave into what everyone else wanted, only to end up putting our foot down and pursuing our original plan now. Surprisingly, once we stood up to everyone, they were really awesome and supportive. Be honest with yourselves, your vision, and your loved ones. If people want to be upset about it, that's their business, but I'm sure people will come around. Best of luck to you both!

We have 20 guests, 18 are family, 2 are FH's best friend and wife from high school. I am loving having all the fun of planning and having a wedding with all the extravagance but none of the stress of a really big party with 100 people to plan and host for.

Small weddings are beautiful and in my opinion the best of both worlds. I debated between full wedding/reception and eloping for a while, and we decided on a smallish wedding with a simple casual reception. And as for people telling you to have a big wedding, if you are paying for it all yourself they can't tell you how to spend your money. Each guest tacks on more money spent.

I am having a small wedding with immediate family and their SOs! Total is a dozen people. I'm so looking forward to it! We're getting married in a beautiful venue that was our little splurge (1K to rent for an hour), and then going out to dinner for a very fancy meal at a fine restaurant (we got a private room for a $1500 food and drink minimum on a Saturday night!). We skipped so many unnecessary formalities and expenses since it's just family - no reception venue rental, no DJ, no speeches, no cocktail hour, minimal decorations, shorter wedding overall. FI and I are much more comfortable with a long sit-down dinner with family rather than the traditional reception of speeches, dinner and dancing. We look forward to sharing funny stories and getting drunk together Smiley smile
