Slow Dance Games?

moscimo, on February 11, 2016 at 11:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 35

I'm looking for a game that will encourage couples and singles to dance with one another in brief (say 30 to 90 seconds) intervals. The reason is we are doing a walk down memory lane with some old 90's slow songs that are awesome and fun, but we don't want to kill the vibe as often slow songs do.

I'm thinking like having somebody be a murderer that slowly kills people off until they are discovered. Or like having a few of the girls or guys have a stash of drink tickets that get handed out during the slow dance song playlist.

I don't want it to be like a creepy thing, just a fun thing that encourages the slow dancing a la' the 90's high school days.

Does this just sound lame or fun? Thoughts or other ideas?

Nope - this is awkward, not cute and pretty weird. You don't force your guests to do anything. This is bad.

I would be very uncomfortable being forced to dance with other people other than the person I came with. Forced dancing is never fun.

Why do you think anything FORCED would be fun? This is extremely weird. I can guarantee you if you tried to FORCE me to do something I didn't want to as a guest at your event, I'd walk right out the door. Also, whats the deal with drink tickets???

WHAT? This is one of the weirdest things I have heard. I would absolutely not participate if I attended a wedding that did this.

ETA: @Kris I hope you have drink tickets for the bar!

Weird. Sorry. I will be hiding out by the bar while you try to make grown people play childish games and force them to dance with each other.

Don't force your guests to do anything. You don't need games or activities.

I don't get this. Why would you want your wedding to be associated with a murderer in any way? But to answer your question: I've never heard of anything close to what you're asking about here.

I do not want to be forced to do anything at a wedding. Just like the stupid garter/bouquet toss, being forced to dance when I do not want to is really degrading and rude. Not only would I leave your wedding, I would exit, stage left from our friendship too.

To answer your question: it sounds lame and not fun.

Please do not force your guests to do anything.

I love 90s music, so that's what we are going to have our DJ play.....and I'm sure our guests will dance without us having to force them or by giving them drink tickets.....(please don't)

I didn't mean to use the word "force" - actually meant encourage. Edited accordingly.

    Thanks for all your input.

No one wants to be encouraged. I'm sure your heart was in the right place, but it really doesn't sound fun!

I think you had good intentions with suggesting something, but I think it will end up having the opposite effect. People will feel awkward about being forced to participate in some weird game and will choose instead to go to the bar until the weirdness is over.

I personally love 90s slow jams and plan to have a few thrown in throughout the night. (98 Degrees' I Do being pretty high on my list...) My advice would be to spread them out. People will still dance without any encouragement from you. If you throw them all together, then people might get bored after 1 or 2 and drift off the dance floor, but I don't think slowing it down every now and then is a bad thing at all.
