Slideshow at Reception

Katie, on May 11, 2016 at 4:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

I did a search on this and found a bunch of posts from years ago - so I thought I'd ask for a current opinion. We got married in Mexico and are having a reception back home. We were thinking of playing a slideshow of our wedding pictures - is this a good idea or not? It would just be during cocktail hour, in the background while the food is being served. The other option would just be having our photo album on a table for guests to look at if they wanted - I just worry it might get ruined. Thoughts?

I think a slideshow would be nice. Depending on how many people you have, a photo album can get crowded. Or you could incorporate pictures into your decor.

I think the slide show is a nice idea. I would be afraid of the guest book getting ruined

There are two kinds of slideshows/videos. One you put on a continuous loop, maybe a TV sitting on the guest book table.

The other is the 'stop and look at this' kind, and if you do it, please make it short and sweet. When I make them for clients 3-7 minutes is the goal. Avoid repetitive photos. Tell a story with the pics. Just because the photo is a nice one, doesn't make it worth using if its similar to another nice one.

Slideshow is nice but please don't make everyone stop and watch. Just have it on a loop in the background.

Definitely in the background! I'm sure many people would be interested to see pictures if they couldn't make it to the ceremony.

Thanks everyone! It will definitely be in the background - I think we have the option to loop for an hour. We aren't having formal dances or anything because we don't necessarily love being the center of attention - so I can't imagine having everyone stop what they are doing to look a bunch of pictures of us!

I've only attended one wedding, of dozens, that had a slideshow. The couple basically used the photos they already had on Facebook. Not the highlight, of a guests' evening.

Slideshows in the background during the cocktail hour work PERFECT! I had that at my wedding. Ours was various pictures of family who couldn't be there, and pictures of my husband and I through the years. It went over very well.

I think that is the perfect way to show your Mexico wedding photos for all to see.
