Skipping my period

Alondra, on December 30, 2011 at 3:18 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

This is probably a stupid question, actually I know it is but oh well.

Is there ANY way to delay my period? Last year when I picked the date for our wedding I made sure it was nowhere near my period date...but you see my date is not always constant. Now I am expecting to start my period a day before the wedding. I wanted to 'bow chicka wow wow' (if ya know what I mean) so if there is any advice at all you could give me I would appreciate it. If you want to make fun of my question you can do that too lol Smiley smile

Thanks!

PS. I am on no medication/pregnancy pill. I do take diet pills though..not sure if that means anything.

Far as I know the best way to skip it is if you are on birth control pills... you can change up the week you take the placebo pills. I've known girls who did that to avoid their period over vacation weeks.

If you aren't on the pill... we'll, then I'm not sure...

I always find that working out a LOT more than usual pushes back the fabulous visit from our favorite 'aunt'. It's worth a shot!

BCP but you'll need to be on them for a few months. Some can take a while before your period becomes regular among other side effects.

I've done it twice so I can skip it while I was on holiday.

If you're not on BC, then Parsley tea! I did this for my wedding! I was due to get my period the day of our wedding and have it for the duration of our honeymoon- which would have sucked! I did some research and found that parsley tea acts as a catalyst to stimulate your period- so you need to drink it a week before the wedding so you'll get your period the week before. Get some fresh parsley from the grocery store, and boil it in water for about 10-15 min. Drink it like tea, about 2-3 cups of it before you go to bed. In the morning your period will come! I was so shocked it worked, and saved our honeymoon! Disclaimer- I'm not a doctor, and parsley tea is dangerous if you're preggers. Do some research before you do it. Good luck!

I agree with Jessica. If you're on the pill, you can just bypass the placebo pills (the ones you take during your period). Start taking your new pack of pills on the week you would normally be on your period instead of taking the white ones (or whatever color they are that's different from the other 3 weeks of the pills).

This is totally safe - I've heard it from doctors and I've done it myself several times. You can check with your doctor but what I've heard (from doctors) is that our bodies don't technically even need to have a period. The only reason birth control pills were designed to give us a week of placebo pills allowing us to have a period is because it freaks women out to not have a period once in awhile.

If you're not on the pill I'm not sure there is really a way to postpone it. The only time mine has ever stopped when I wasn't taking the pill was when I was VERY stressed...so who knows, maybe the wedding would do that for you anyway?? Smiley smile

@Clare, Hmm interesting. That's the last thing I expected to hear from someone. I'll def take a look into that.

Does anyone know anything about the pill named Northindrone?

    "brown chicken brown cow"

Dude I would not mess with your period. I have irregular periods too, and I FINALLY had them under control with BCP's when I tried skipping the placebo week. It totally backfired, and I was literally spotting/on my period for the next 3 months. Not fun.

I have a friend who has used an herbal tea to "induce" her period early, but I feel like your body might already be kind of stressed with the wedding. I wouldn't mess with it...

Clare- Parsley tea? I think that might be it! Also- dandelion tea acts like a diuretic and can decrease bloating/puffiness, if you're feeling PMS-y. Just make sure you stay hydrated.

Getting pregnant before the wedding wouldn't work for me! I'm getting on my FH's health insurance after we wed and pregnancies can be claimed as a pre-existing condition therefore not covered. Therefore I don't recommend going that route until you know exactly how your covered for the expenses.

I was shocked it actually worked! You can use fresh ginger too. I like herbal remedies, less side effects than any of the pills. Plus I can't take BC so this worked for me. This site was very helpful: http://www.sisterzeus.com/delayedmen.htm

Well..my FH and I are waiting until marriage soo that probably wouldn't work. (getting pregnant I mean) I am actually considering the tea but I hope I do not get Sabrina's outcome. That would suck very much so.

Welp, you have the month of Jan. to test it out! I would try it out this weekend - you've got nothing to loose. If it doesn't work out then you'll know not to get it next month.

Well for me, it's been proven time and time again that mine doesn't ....uh....show up while we're doing da biz :oP I heard a rumor about that and decided to see and each time, nothing 'shows up' while we're doing it. Not sure if it works for everyone. Also, if you haven't tried it yet, just go ahead and enjoy your honeymoon even if your period shows up. Use towels or use the shower to your advantage. I got off BC for the sole purpose of conceiving when it's time and I've done the whole skip-the-placebos and it threw my online menstrual calendar average off as well as calculating my ovulation window. Good luck hun! It's almost GO TIME! :o)
