Silicone wedding band for FH... Thoughts?

NenaBear, on September 22, 2015 at 12:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

Of course he will have his real band to exchange during our ceremony and wear when he is not working. I'm thinking this will be a nice alternative to either him destroying his ring at work or just not wearing it.

Has anyone heard of them or have experience with these?

YES. M recommended Qalo, which I ended up using for FH because he can't wear a metal ring to work, among other reasons. He loves them, I love them. I'm a big fan. Smiley smile

ETA - I mean the brand Qalo, lol.

FH is getting one! He is a crossfitter and former gymnast. He is terrified of a regular band after seeing some pretty bloody accidents with people lifting barbells with rings. A good friend of his has one and it's really soft and comfortable. For the ceremony and special occasions he will wear his gold band, but for the day to day he will wear the silicone band to avoid accidents and to ease his worry of losing it. These are pretty popular now in the crossfit world and also for others with active lifestyles (military, firemen, etc)

Yes, H and I both have rings we got from Qalo, we wear them when working out and he wears it when installing crazy shit he installs for work.

I looked into them, but honestly I think they're just kind of a fad right now. My husband takes his ring off to golf and I just take mine off when I need to. I don't see the need to have something to show to anyone else that we're married.

I want to get one for DH. He's a personal trainer so he doesn't wear his ring while he's working or working out. So almost all day every day. He thinks they look cheap and tacky and kind of like DMN says, he doesn't think he needs to wear one just to show people he's married.

Idk, I still think he should wear something. It's not a trust issue or anything, I know everyone he works with and the gym regulars, I'm not worried about "claiming my territory"

I just think it's weird for a married man to rarely wear a wedding band.

Thank you ladies! Qalo is the brand that keeps coming up. I'm pretty sure that is the route we will go for his everyday ring.

@DMN I think it may be a fad that recently blew up in the workout scene, but it really makes sense for guys that lift heavy ish or do other work with their hands that destroys rings. In the case of my FH, either we will be replacing his ring every few years or he will only wear it 10% of the time.

@NenaBear- I agree, it is new but I don't think it's necessarily a fad. People with active lifestyles find it difficult to wear a regular ring. I don't think that's changing anytime soon. FH works out 2 hours a day 6 days a week and goes straight to work from the gym- if he didn't wear the silicone ring he would literally never wear a ring. For someone like me who goes to the gym recreationally for an hour 4-5 days a week, we can just pop my ring on and off.

If it's a fad, it's a fad FH and I are both grateful for, because it's a great solution to some questions we couldn't figure out how to answer. Smiley smile

NenaBear - this is cool, never seen this before! I would also recommend tungsten if he needs something durable. Tungsten rings are AMAZINGLY durable. And are not expensive online either (jewelry stores sometimes jack up the prices). Just a thought! But this is really cool too. Smiley smile

My father lost his ring on my parents honeymoon and hasn't had the ring for the last 31 years. So it doesn't seem weird to me at all. If you're a personal trainer or work with your hands then it can make sense. But personally it seems to me that the majority of people who buy those and look into them are concerned about wearing a ring for the 3 hours/week they're at the gym. That doesn't make sense to me. I would rather just take it off.

DMN- agreed! I take that sucker off when I go to the gym. I think it's a very good solution for people who need to wear it for an extended period of time or don't want to deal with taking it on an off. I don't think it's necessary for FH to wear his ring in the gym, but he didn't want to deal with taking it on and off for fear of losing it so he just decided to make silicone his 99% of the time ring Smiley smile

@Kiwi Kawaii I believe that is what his band is. He's just as concerned about tearing up his hands as he is the ring lol

@DMN that makes more sense. FH is really looking forward to being married and showing that he is married. I can't even pretend that I don't like that he wants to show his marital off :-)

My brother in law has one. He doesn't really have an active lifestyle but he is allergenic to a bunch of different metals. He loves his. I asked my FH if he was interested in getting one and he said absolutely not. He wants something that looks like an actual ring and not just an accessory. Personally I think they look a little weird/cheap but that is just me. If you're going for durable I say go for it!

I bought one for my FH & he is a commercial plumber, He has been wearing it for about a month or so and so far it has held up well. Just make sure you get the right size so it can breath underneath. The only issue he has was that under the ring it got to be so moist that his skin started peeling.

FH got that exact one and I got a black and purple one! We both wanted something to wear on our honeymoon and would be too worried about our rings in the ocean. For $15, we'll give them a shot!

I plan to get one to wear while working out. I've heard good things about Qalo rings.

Yess! DH is getting one. Qalo like M said is what he is getting. My cousin is a cop and he has one he says it's great. DH can't get used to his ring cause hr picked on with groves (I told him not too lol) so it hurts his fingers. This way we can keep the blessed ring and he can wear the Silicone.

Eta: I don't recommend tungston. It can't be resized or cut off. DH is a firefighter and was told that kind of band can be dangerous in some fields.

FH is a Firefighter and we will be getting him a ring from Qalo. He picked out a tungsten wedding band but we still don't want to risk something happening while at work.

Have you tried ROQ? They have really amazing quality bands and really affordable (4 pack in $12.99 or something like that...). I bought 8 rings for my wife and I. They also sell on Amazon. You can get them here if you like (I'm not affiliated with them or something like that):
