A we have similar but it's never a concern for the couple. Check with the venue, they will be able to tell you if they already pay it, if you need to pay it, and who to pay it to. If it's an issue I'm sure they will have come across it before.

Yes so I checked with the venue and they said we are responsible for figuring this out by ourselves. So I was just hoping someone had experience with this or had a wedding in Italy and could share some insights

@MFB - very interesting. While this is a little off subject, just an FYI - in NYC, you can't have dancing in a venue unless that venue has a cabaret license. This is why we ruled out NYC restaurants for our small wedding as dancing was very important to us.

OP - that's pretty bad that the venue won't help you out with information given that they know you are out of the country.

In Ireland it's IMRO all places that play public music are supposed to pay for a licence to IMRO so it's never a concern for the musician. Italy in my expierence like many Southern European countries do things slightly different and in that many things that should be done aren't necessarily done. There are many people who specialise in planning Italian weddings. Perhaps contact one of them and ask thier advice.

@nonna lol my cousin worked there for a while. Also being a European am well used to differences between all of the different countries.

@Maria so are you saying that normally the tax is required but that doesn't mean most people actually apply for the permit? Because it is such a small wedding at a private event, it seems odd that anyone would actually come and inspect the event. But we want to be sure to follow all local laws and regulations.

@anae that is a possibility, but I really don't know how strick they are on that specifically there. There certainly are many things that aren't paid in Italy, but you do need to check with a local, as no it's not a good idea to brake the rules if it is something that has to be done. In Ireland you are ment to have a similar type of license. But if I rented out a big house and had guests over for a private party and played my iPod it would never cross my mind to pay it for a one off event. Definitely get the correct information from someone local over there.
