show me your mom's wedding dresses! :) - 80s and 90s

Aronna, on August 9, 2013 at 8:49 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 23

More likely the veils. Smiley smile back when Big & overstated was the thing.

My wedding gown is going to be more modern IMO, but I think I want a vintage inspired veil. The big ones they wore in the 80s or early 90s.

anyone have some retro wedding pictures they can scan to help inspire me? I'm thinking headpiece like the First pic, and veil look like the second one.

I have a big head and the veils with the little combs aren't doing it for me. I keep thinking they look flat.

yes I'm serious. I'm getting married on Halloween with a big city step out afterwards, so anything goes Smiley smile I'll contact you for bail if the fashion police come after me.

OMG!!! I got married the first time in 98! I didn't have a crazy veil, but I had a combo of the top dress and the dress on the bottom left, minus the high neck. HA HA HA.... yucky!

Edit: Oops this was from the 70s not the 80s/90s. Oh well.

Aww, I don't have a picture of my mother, she was 16 when they got married. I've only seen a photo of their "wedding" once! Here is one of my grandmother and grandfather, it's not funny, but it was blue!

What do you think they'll say in about 20 years when they see the dresses we are picking out now?

Hahaha my parents were married in 1976 and my mom wore a huge hat. I was old enough to get married in the 90s. Thank God I didn't, but I could have. Bwahahahaha

I got married the first time in the eighties. I dont have a picture of me from that wedding. But I rocked the white tea length eyelet dress with ballet slippers with the ribbons that went up my legs. I cant remember but I dont think I had anything in my hair. My mother planned that entire wedding for me and refused to let me have any input. She was my mad of honor wearing this sea foam green chiffon dress and then everything else for the wedding was pink. I hate pink; I did then and I still do.

My mom got married in the 60s - and she and her best friend shared a dress. The friend designed the dress and mom made it - then they each wore it to their own wedding. It was a beautiful dress, one that would still work today. Lovely square lace neckline and ball gown skirt.

Now be nice, this is my wedding dress from 1982. The veil was cathedral length with a "Juliet" cap. The dress had a gazillion covered buttons on the back and up the sleeves to the elbow.

Aronna, you asked, "What do you think they'll say in about 20 years when they see the dresses we are picking out now?" My guess is that they'll pick out the features that date the decade in which the dresses were popular -- most likely the sleeveless, strapless styles that seem to be everywhere. There will be plenty of "can you believe what they wore" chatter among 2030 brides.

I had to add an interesting story to the OP's first photo.

The year is 1989, and the couple in the photo is 52 year-old Rolling Stone, Bill Wyman, and his 18 year old bride, Mandy Smith (she looks like she's about to be swallowed alive by her nuclear sized veil and cascading bouquet). They had a bitter divorce four years later.

Here's where it gets even stranger. Bill's 31 year old son, Stephen, married Mandy's 49 year old mother, Patsy, that same year. They divorced in 1995. But, for a few years, Bill Wyman's mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were the same person.

Oh damn I wish I was on a computer right now. My mom's veil and dress were so out of control. It was pretty, but VERY 80's.

I got married for the first time in the 90s (god I feel old) but I was way behind the times.

    I wore a 1970s dress.

    Sort of like these

But with lace (the back was all lace) and had lace over some of it.

(I have no actual photos of it as digital or in the UK)
