So my FH apparently wanted to surprise me for the holidays. He started asking me questions yesterday and finally just caved and said he is too nervous about spending that kind of money on jewelry without my input since I don't wear jewelry (I am extremely allergic to nickel, it burns my skin, so I usually skip jewelry all together). I started helping him find/design a wedding band to which he said "shouldn't we start with the engagement ring and match the band to that". It never even crossed my mind that I would get an e-ring, so I was kind of in shock. He started asking questions about ring styles and carat size and I am now so lost and a little stressed. I want to pick something I love but all of these decisions are intimidating.... Solitaire, studded, 3 stone, Halo.... There are so many choices my head is spinning so I decided to ask you for some help. Can you show me your engagement ring and tell me a little about it? If you helped design or chose your ring, how did you decide on that particular one? How did you decide what carat size to pick, what setting to choose, and wether or not to add accent stones? I feel stupid not knowing about all of this stuff and I tend to be indecisive in general so this one is kinda tough for me. I don't want to make the wrong choice and regret it...
My ring is a natural aquamarine set in sterling silver with a small halo. I never really wanted a diamond ring and when I saw this perfectly clear stone I had to opt for this one. Aquamarine is my birthstone and I grew up on the water, so it fits me perfectly!

Thank you so much for all of this information. I showed this to FH and he studied it lol. We went in to place our order today and he chose the center stone (the only say I had was the shape) I decided on a Marquise and he chose this beautiful diamond. It's a .98 carate brilliant cut Marquise, VVS1 clarity, colorless F grade color, no fluorescence, very good symmetry, and very good polish. They pointed out the one inclusion they could find under the microscope for documentation before sending it to be placed and the ring to be sized. I am so excited! I can't wait to wear it.
I guess the images didn't load last time. Here are pictures of the diamond, the setting it will be placed on, and the wedding band/enhanser. Truly, thank you so much, you really laid it out in a way we could understand and it helped him make a choice he was comfortable with for a good price.

That is gorgeous! And not a problem at all, I’m so glad it was helpful to you. When I was looking into diamonds and quality and such, it was sooo overwhelming and so hard to find out what all that stuff actually means lol, it’s awesome to know my research could help others with their decision too! 😊
My FH picked it out himself...mine is a Princess cut diamond with mini-diamonds on each side. FH went with his sister to a local jewelry store and, after debating between 2 different styles, ultimately settled for the one (without matching wedding band). I had blocked my Pinterest board to not make him feel bad (some of the rings I had pinned were pretty expensive and I had just liked them, wasn't expecting them) so he was flying blind. In the end, he chose a beautiful ring! I love it so much 💕 for the wedding band, we went together to choose them. I tried several ones but, in the end, I did find a matching band for mine 😉
I told my FH the shape of the diamond/color band I wanted and asked him to pick the rest so it would be more personal (and also because I know NOTHING about jewelry lol). Thankfully, he has good taste and picked out an amazing ring! The center diamond is 1.5 carats and my ring size is 4.5. Good luck!!
