So my FH apparently wanted to surprise me for the holidays. He started asking me questions yesterday and finally just caved and said he is too nervous about spending that kind of money on jewelry without my input since I don't wear jewelry (I am extremely allergic to nickel, it burns my skin, so I usually skip jewelry all together). I started helping him find/design a wedding band to which he said "shouldn't we start with the engagement ring and match the band to that". It never even crossed my mind that I would get an e-ring, so I was kind of in shock. He started asking questions about ring styles and carat size and I am now so lost and a little stressed. I want to pick something I love but all of these decisions are intimidating.... Solitaire, studded, 3 stone, Halo.... There are so many choices my head is spinning so I decided to ask you for some help. Can you show me your engagement ring and tell me a little about it? If you helped design or chose your ring, how did you decide on that particular one? How did you decide what carat size to pick, what setting to choose, and wether or not to add accent stones? I feel stupid not knowing about all of this stuff and I tend to be indecisive in general so this one is kinda tough for me. I don't want to make the wrong choice and regret it...

Mine is a .5 carat solitaire w/ a pave band, it’s 18k white gold i believe. he designed it through james allen. he knew i wanted a solitaire and i told him i liked thin bands and the pave style. i’m also allergic to nickel (i have a few scars from where belt buckles or cheap jewelry literally melted my skin away!) so he was nervous about buying me something, but i haven’t had any issues with it!!

Go with what you want and your budget and what you guys like together.

I feel for mine I was to much at first I did not want princess I was so focused on pear or halo that I did not consider what he wanted to design and didn't realize he helped pick it out with my mom who loves princess cut. When I saw the ring I cried and I was so happy he picked it out on his own and with my mom, it made me feel like i should not have been so picky. The fact he incorporated my mom and I have something like hers makes me happier than ever and I am glad I did not get what only I wanted, I am happy to wear a ring that means something and incorporates my mom. My FH wanted small rhinestones and incorporate that on the band, our budget was no more than 3k and we talked about it ahead time. We did talk about what I wanted, I also said I did not want him to go over budget and if it was alot less I did not care am not materialistic at all and would of been happy with literally anything. Look up designs if you want and see different ones, that is what I did I showed him the ones I wanted but in the end when I found out my mom and him went together I cried and was happy they both fell in love with something that can incorporate her. It is so similar to her rings my dadd got her 2, same colors gold and princess and I started crying because my mom is my world. Look at many options diamonds non diamonds, all types of bands colors prices different jewelry shops. you never know what you can fall in love with, clearly I thought I wanted halo but if I got what I originally wanted I think I would of regretted it, I am so happy that I have something similar to my moms, shes actually even resizing one of her rings to give to me as a Christmas present. Take the time to see what really blows your mind you may have something in mind now but something else might win you over

I really wanted sapphires and diamonds. We looked at rings together and I showed him some that I liked. My e-ring's center stone is a round cut, about .75 carat with a total weight of about 1.25 with the diamonds on the side. I think the ring size is a 7 which was the standard stock size. My wedding band matches it with sapphires and diamonds.

The struggle is real with that allergy. There is nickel in so much stuff, even medical grade equipment, that I have to inquire about it all the time. I can't wear white gold at all because it is often bonded with small amounts of nickel. My safe metals are Continuum silver, platinum, tungsten Carbide, and rose gold.

I chose mine... After weeks of scouring the interwebs, I fell for a vintage ring. Then had a local custom jeweler recreate it for us. FI proposed without a ring though so I gave all my input. But I get to wear it every day, and ended up very different from what he would have chosen.

I had no idea about our proposal, let alone the ring. He worked with a jeweler to custom design a ring (I have renderings and all sorts of stories). They decided on a rose cut diamond with a rose gold setting with some tapered design and 3 tiny diamonds on both sides. Rose cut diamonds are like little disco ball with facets that replicates a rose and the style dates back to the 1500s. The cut of diamond isn’t as popular and a bit unique compared to some other diamond cuts out there.

I was floored that he had done all of this (3-4 months of designing, another month of holding onto the ring before the proposal) and it so perfect in every way. I actually had saved a couple that were strikingly similar to what he ended up with so that was a bit eerie.

It's amazing how little I know (and still do) about rings. I think you should look at photos to see what you might like and what you might not fall out of love with.

See if you want something modest, more over the top, vintage, or modern. It's significantly cheaper to have a diamond with a "halo" of diamonds around that at a glance looks like one big diamond. I have tiny fingers (3.5) so he got me a ring that was very delicate yet strong, a bit more modern, with some texture and detailing. The prongs were tamed down a bit to hold the diamond into shape.

Also I am seeing a lot of stacked possibilities, where instead of just one engagement ring, there are 3-5 stacking rings. Ultimately depends on your style!

It's overwhelming and you can always upgrade, also if you have an heirloom from his family or yours (diamond, gold to melt down to incorporate into yours) that could be another way that makes it more personal!

And I thought my ring size was small (5.25)! You have such thing, long, beautiful fingers and that ring complements them perfectly! I love the story behind him designing the ring. It's absolutely stunning.

I'm so excited. We finally found my rings. Only thing left to find is the right center stone which we will likely do after the holidays. We decided on an enhanser instead of a band and the center stone will either be Marquise or Oval cut. I put this this ring on and quickly fell in love (I never thought I would say that about jewelry) and once they added the enhanser, I was done for. Sorry, I just had to share because I am so very excited!

My ring is rose gold, 1 carat emerald cut stone in the center. I told my FH i wanted a simple solitaire ring bc i have smaller fingers, i'm a 4.5, so i didn't want anything to overly powerful. He had the stones added to the front and back of the band to give it a little extra sparkle. I absolutely love my ring.

We did not look together at all. I told him that I would like a center morganite because it is much more budget friendly and still very beautiful (this size diamond would have been 15k and I would never be able to afford that!!!). I also told him that I love pear shape and that I'd like a unique band with rose gold.

Side note: the stone is big because small stones look silly on my six-foot tall stature complete with size 10 fingered-man hands.

I’ve been seriously staring at your ring for two minutes - it’s perfect!! I love the way the band frames the center stone and the interweaving pattern. Gorgeous!!!
