Should we get a Day of Coordinator?

Emma, on December 26, 2019 at 10:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

My fiancé and I are considering getting a day of coordinator. The thought of everything we have to do on the day is becoming daunting. We're thinking this will help keep the flow of things for the ceremony and reception (we aren't having a dj), they'll handle set up, and help with directing people.

So the questions I have:

Are these things that the DOC would help with?

How much did you pay for a DOC? I'm hoping I can try to fit it into the budget

Bonus if anyone has a suggestion for a DOC near Charlotte, NC!

We had a DOC and she handled all of the above, but I'm sure it depends on the person or company. "Day of coordinator" isn't really a clearly defined role, they just kind of do whatever needs to be done. We are in the Cincinnati area and paid $1300 for our DOC.

I’m in Nashville and paying $1100 for my coordinator. Our wedding is in February, but she’s already been super helpful. Ours also has some items that are available for us to use if we don’t want to purchase them (ring bearer pillow, flower girl basket, cake cutting set, etc.).

Our venue handled all of this so it wasn't necessary for us. However, if you don't have anyone to handle these sort of things then I would recommend one. My brother-in-law didn't hire one and they really should have. Everything was a disorganized mess. The night before the wedding, they were trying to figure things out. The bridal party ended up setting up the reception area, but it took a lot of coordinating because no one knew where or when they had to be places. His wife didn't even know where the photographer was going to be the day of the wedding. The groomsmen didn't know what time to be where or where to be to get ready. They ended up using my husband and I's hotel room which meant I had to leave the room with no where to go. It was a nightmare.

Reach out to Mischia Lynn with Out Of The Box Events and More. She is located in the Charlotte area & is the event planner for my friend getting married, but also offers DOC services.

She offered to be my DOC for $350 (she’s a friend of one of my friends)

You can find her on Facebook. If needed, I can get her number for you.

I live in the Charlotte area, but we’re getting married in Johnson City, TN & my sister is the event manager for Hilton hotels, so she’s handling our DOC duties for us. Otherwise, I would’ve hired someone. Especially if you’re not having a DJ. Like you said, you don’t want the stress of handling the flow of events, etc.

Doc can def do that. I paid mine $75/hour and that felt on the cheaper end than quotes I was seeing.

I feel so relieved now that we've hired ours! I think it was around $1600, but we have unlimited meetings with the planner starting at 6 weeks out from the wedding.

We have one included in our venue, but honestly having her there has already made me less stressed about all of it. I know it'll happen seamlessly without my having to make it happen, and there's comfort in that! The last thing you want is your guests not knowing what's happening next, where to go, etc. Highly recommend.

My venue has one included which is very nice for us. If they didn't have one I would hire one so I wouldn't be freaking out over the small things that they handle.

Our venue included a coordinator and she was a life saver. Made sure the day ran smoothly, coordinated vendors, made announcements, etc. (we didn't do a dj either). Always team coordinator here.

I am having one of my friends do this for me, just so we stay on track with time and everyone is where they should be. My venue also has someone to help let vendors know where to go. Good luck!

We used Amanda from A Swanky Affair in Raleigh, NC and I couldn't say better things about her because she truly glued the whole day together!

We had her as our DOC, but really that meant that 5 weeks before the wedding I shared with her all of my vendors/contacts, guest lists, wedding party info, and had a great conversation over coffee on how we wanted the day to look and feel, what was important to us, etc.

She provided a variety of services (from full wedding planning $3000, Day/Month of Coordination $1800, a la carte options, etc) and we were in touch frequently up to the wedding. She was present and coordinated our rehearsal the day before, she had created a timeline of the day for us based on our desires and ensured all wedding party, parents, officiant, and vendors had the timeline and were calm cool and collected. She let me focus on getting ready with my girls the morning of and took my seating chart and layout vision and brought it all to life and at the end of the evening stayed late to help vendors pack up and go and make sure my husband and I were leaving with all of our personal items. I would 1,000,000% recommend a DOC and if Amanda travels, she would be my recommendation by far!
