Should I wear a veil for my beach wedding?

Megan, on January 5, 2014 at 7:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I love the look of a veil but am nervous about the wind. Any suggestions?

Hmm. Tough one. I went to a wedding last year - not on the beach - and the wind was so bad my friend's veil got caught on one of the chairs on the aisle and had to take her veil before getting to her husband!

I'm also getting married on a beach, and I'm wearing a fascinator with a small veil attached - it hits just below my chin (birdcage style, not but birdcage material). But I chose it because I like fascinators and my dress is shorter.

Yeah I'm just not sure. I would hate for my veil to get caught on anything!

I am going to wear one. I am a little worried about the wind, but I have always wanted to wear my great-grandmother's veil, so I am going to do it. I am considering using small weighted magnets or even using a few stitches to fasten te veil to the train.

It's a very personal decision. You will find a lot of people advising against it for many reasons...the wind, the sand, veils are too formal for beach ceremonies, etc. I still have not decided if I will wear one. At first, for no particular reason, I was leaning toward no veil. However, I'm now strongly considering a veil, & a long one at that, despite the opinion of others.

    Good luck ; )

I'm also having a beach wedding, and am not wearing one. I found a beautiful jeweled starfish hairclip to wear instead!

YES YES YES they look SO BEAUTIFUL blowing in the wind, as long as you dont mess with it, let it move in the breeze, the only bad thing is if you keep trying to fix it it will be distracting! My best friends older sisters wedding was just that, she looked so beautiful, but she kept trying to fix it, i guess she didnt realize how beautiful it was moving in the breeze

Don't they have weights that you can attach to the bottom so they don't fly around as much? I would think that if the wind is strong enough to throw the veil around uncontrollably, then your hair is going to be a wreck too. Unless you have it in a bun.

About 1/3 of our weddings, around where I live, are beach weddings. Most of the time, the veil is very distracting and blowing everywhere. As SXC suggested, you can find veil weights, to hold them down.

I wore a veil for my beach wedding in Mexico. It looked really pretty blowing in the wind in the photos. I took it off for the reception and cocktail hour. I didn't spend a ton on my veil so I was willing to axe it if it was super windy but it turned out just fine for me.

I wore a veil. With high winds on the beach, it blew in the wind and made for pretty beautiful pictures. By the time Kyle and I said "I do," it flew right out of my head and made for some even better and candid pictures.

When a bride is wearing a veil, I position her so the wind is not blowing it forward during the ceremony. It works here on the west coast of Fla. because the breeze is frequently out of the north.
