Should I fire my wedding planner?

Abunjevac, on March 28, 2017 at 4:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

My wedding is in November, and I hired my wedding planner in December 2016. So far we have had 2-3 meetings basically going though my Pinterest board deciding on a theme and style. In addition to these meetings all she has sent me since booking her was a PowerPoint presentation with 3 photography options(this was a month ago). For a month now, I have been back and forth with her to book the photographer I want but it still hasn't been done. In addition, she usually takes about 5-7 days to reply to my e-mails. We also text sometimes, and she doesn't reply to some texts, or takes a 3-4 days to reply to them. I paid my deposit with her with was 800$ and I have the next fee payment due in April. I dont feel like paying her because she hasn't done much yet. What should I do? Any advice would be great. Thanks ladies

Imo 5 days seems like too long to take to get back to a client. Even a simple "hey I'm working on it, I will let you know when I have more info" goes a long way.

I don't have a wedding planner so I don't know for certain, but that sounds like poor customer service. I agree with PP, that she should at least let you know she got the text/email and will get back with you as soon as she can. Being left to guess is not professional.

I haven't even officially hired my wedding planner (having a meeting in 2 weeks to sign contract/pay deposit) and she has already been super helpful. She's gotten me in contact with multiple vendors, has already set up meetings at my venue and has responded to all emails/texts in a timely manner. So, judging by that I would disappointed in what your planner has done for you so far.

Maybe you need to have a sit down with her and talk about her availability. Explain that you expected someone more committed to getting your wedding done and you'd like to keep her as your planner but if she doesn't step it up you might need to look for someone else. Good luck!

I had a similar experience early on, after I put my $1000 deposit down on my venue (which came wa wedding planner) she would also ignore my emails for days even weeks, so what did was email her (with a the subject line: Communication concerns) and just laid it all out there! She did a 180 although there has been a few hiccups along the way with her cancelling meetings due to personal issues, but overall she's been more responsive after I expressed what I felt was appropriate and what I needed and expected from her. I hope it works out! :+)

It's an issue .. you're running the risk of not getting the vendors you want . 8 months is not that far a lot of major vendors book a year out

I would not be able to stand that. I'm a planner and very Type A and I get back to people quickly and can't stand when people don't respond or at least acknowledge a message in a day or two. Personally, I would change planners. Before doing so though, you may want to reach out to her to clarify your expectations. If she realizes what you want and need, she may step up her game. If not or if she seems put off by it, get someone else.

I don't have a planner, but this does sound good. I would discuss with her her availability and if she doesn't get back to you, I'd cancel and eat the deposit if I had to. Have you been doing work on your own too? Also, if you do back out with her, leave a review.

5-7 day reply time is not great Smiley sad What exactly are the services she provides that are outlined in your contract?
