Short fat bride. Weddings dress help needed!

Cat, on December 27, 2018 at 4:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29
Hey all!! Going dress shoppping soon but trying to figure out what dress will look beat on me. I'm 4'10 and 300 pounds of sunshine and terror! Lol! I wear a size 24/3 or 4x. Im top heavy with 48DDD, big belly with an annoying hang over and big upper arms. I am surprisingly solid, not that lumpy lumpy or sloppy and look good in just about everything. Wedding dresses scare me and most pictures depict a size 2 model. So what dress would fit me and what tips do you have for accessories etc. Thanks in advance.

I’d suggest looking at a plus size bridal shop.

A-line dresses are the safest bet for any body shape or size. I would start from there and keep an open mind. You may find something that surprises you.

I agree with the above comment. I have not gone shopping yet but I would say ballgown or a-line would be the one that would be most flattering. Im curvy myself but tall I usually go on pinterest and search curvy brides which helps me. You are right about the models for dresses they are usually smaller women and it might not look the same. :/

Try on different styles. I personally thought I would love a mermaid style. Turns out they look terrible on me and I hated them. I chose a sheath gown which i thought would look bad, I'm 5'3" and about 200 pounds. You will definitely find one you will love.

First off I LOVE your description of yourself! Secondly, theres a bridal salon in my area that caters exclusively to plus size brides. What they recommend is waist cinching belts or dresses, mermaid dresses, a dress that accentuates your best assets. Waist cinching dresses pull your waist in and generally give a slimming effect.

Fellow plus size bride here. I'm a foot taller though lol.
Here are some dresses I had found before finding my dress. I think A line/empire waists are always flattering for us big girls.

From everything I have tried and seen, mermaid style dresses are the worst on us short people especially if you are not skinny. I have found A-line or Ballgown both "true ball gown" and drop waisted ball gown to be the most flattering. Also if you tend to fluctuate in weight like I have been this past year, either get a dress with a corset back or have one added to relieve stress if possibly going up or down a size.

I'm top heavy and carry my weight around my belly. I had my dress custom made so that it would skim and flow around my waist.

Just an FYI, they say ballgowns make you look shorter and wider (I'm right there with you at 5'2" and plus size!). I haven't gone dress shopping yet but I'm leaning towards an A line, probably with a belt to suck everything in! Also if you pinterest plus size wedding dresses there should be some examples so you can get an idea.

It really comes down to your exact body shape. I’m short and plus sized but both mermaids and ball gowns looked great on me. If you’re top heavy I’d recommend a ball gown to balance you out but you should try everything to be sure.

I’m a plus size bride. I’m 5’9 and 260lbs. Here is a picture of the dress I chose! I went to a bridal store that caterers to plus size women. I had a great experience and I’m so excited to wear my dress. Best of luck dress shopping.
