September wedding

Holly, on July 7, 2019 at 11:48 PM Posted in Planning 1 11
Hi,

im getting married on September 6th, 2020. It’s the Sunday before Labor Day. I have a couple of questions!

1. When should I send the ‘save the date card’?
2. Any color suggestions for September wedding?
3. I’m having 4 bridesmaids. I am either thinking about paying for their dresses or hair/makeup. Which do you think my ladies would prefer?
4. Is a videographer necessary?
5. When should I take my engagement photos?

    1) As soon as you've booked things and have the date practically set in stone. -You can do it up to a year in advance. With it being a holiday weekend, I'd probably say sooner is better. 8-12 months in advance.

    2) Whatever you like.

    3) If you're requiring hair and makeup - then pay for the hair and makeup. If you're not requiring it - pay for the dress.

    4) Personal preference. We opted out. Never seen my parents watch their video, don't like seeing ourselves on camera.

    5) Whenever you like. If you want to use them for save the dates- probably plan a month or two before you send them out. If you want wintery save the dates- December. Once again, all about personal preference.

Hey Holly!! Congratulations on your engagement! You must be so excited to start planning your wedding!

Are you having a local wedding or a destination wedding? The timeframe for STDs is different for both as guests will have to think about travel plans if they are all expected to catch a flight! If you are having a destination wedding, I would recommend sending your STDs out somewhere between 8 to 12 months before your wedding, to give your guests a chance to plan their journey. If you are having a wedding in your local town/city, you should send out your STDs somewhere between 4 to 8 months in advance.

If you have any more questions about STDs, you should check out this article from the ideas section that will have the answer for you!

When to Send Save the Dates

In the ideas section, I also came across this fun quiz that you can take to help you with your wedding colors!

Which Wedding Colors Are Right for You?

I’d love to know what colors you get!!

    1. I think 8-10 months out is more than enough time. It is a holiday weekend and people travel. If you have a lot of out of town guests/traveling guests, you may want to send them out 8-12 months.
    2. I love dark deep colors for September. We were originally thinking of getting married in September. Wine, Navy, Burgundy, Plum. But you can do whatever you want.
    3. I agree with the post above. If you are making it mandatory for them to do their hair/makeup, that. If it isn't maybe pay for their nails. Bridesmaids typically know the deal of having to pay for their own dress.
    4. I personally do not think it is. We won't be getting one.
    5. If you want to use one of them for your save the dates, I would say after you book your venue and have a date, and are getting ready to get that all together. If you do not plan on using a picture, whenever you like is fine too. We didn't have formal pictures taken. We took a bunch on our vacation in Portugal in May and one of them was perfect for the save the date.

    Happy planning!

    1. When should I send the ‘save the date card’?

We sent our STDs out for our Sept. 28th wedding mid-Dec. because our wedding is considered "destination" (1+ hrs of travel) to nearly all of our guests.

    2. Any color suggestions for September wedding?

Our Sept. wedding colors are navy, berry, champagne and ivory.

    3. I’m having 4 bridesmaids. I am either thinking about paying for their dresses or hair/makeup. Which do you think my ladies would prefer?

Typically, BMs pay for their dresses, and then if you are requiring them to have their hair and makeup professionally done, you would pay. If it's optional, they typically pay; however, it would be a very nice gesture to treat them all to it.
    4. Is a videographer necessary?

No, not at all. We opted to just have a photographer, but really this is up to you.

    5. When should I take my engagement photos?

Again, this is completely up to you. We got engaged Feb. 2018 and had our engagement pics done Sept. 2018, so a year out from our wedding.

Best of luck in your planning endeavors!

My wedding is also in September but of this year.

    1) We sent ours out in December last year along with our Christmas Cards which was 9 months out.

    2) Our colors are emerald green, white, and silver. You can do any colors you want tho they don't have to "go" with the month,

    3) I also have 4 bridesmaids. I am paying for their nails. They paid for their dresses and makeup. Honestly just ask which one they would prefer.

    4) I don't think a videographer is necessary but if you have the budget and cant imagine your day without one then go for it!

    5) We took our engagement pictures really early (23 months out) but that's because I was super excited and wanted to do them ASAP. I say you can do them within 3-5 months before your STDs go out.

    1) I'd send the save the dates 9-12 months out since it's a holiday weekend - so anytime from September to December of this year is fine.

    2) Choose whatever colors you want! We're doing darker colors that are pretty typical for late summer/early fall - wine, navy, blush, and gold.

    3) Your bridesmaids can pay for their own dresses (that's the norm) but it would be nice for you to pay for their hair and makeup.

    4) Not necessary but I'd add one if you can afford it!

    5) If you want to include your engagement photos with your save the dates, I'd try to take them this summer.

My wedding is 9.27.19, a Sunday.

We sent our save the dates already. Our engagement photos are planned for 9.9.19 - we wanted fall engagement photos.

My colors are gold, burgundy, and blush. Navy looks amazing with these colors, btw, but he's doing black...so my dark color is...black.

No videographer. Gifting my MOH (no BMs) with $100 towards whatever - shoes, jewelry, or the dress. And, paying for her hair/makeup. And, paying for her daughter's dress, the flower girl. I get off easy since it's just one person.

This is our date as well! ALL of our guests will be traveling so I'm leaning toward getting out STDs out soon after we take our engagement photos - which will be 10.5.19. I've already told my closest family and friends word of mouth.
