September nyc Weddings - What are you doing?

Mel, on May 24, 2020 at 1:05 PM Posted in New York Planning 1 8
Hello ladies! We are getting married 9.20.20 in NYC. I am specifically looking to hear from brides who have a later summer/early fall wedding planned in NYC.
My question is, what are your plans? My concern is that NYC hasn’t even begun phase 1 of reopening. We still plan to get married that day, even if we have to have a small gathering in our backyard (we live outside of New York). I just hate waiting until last minute to make a decision.

We were supposed to be this Oct 10th. We started to feel that there's too much uncertainty regarding NYC to be confident in being able to have our wedding the way we wanted it. We just made the decision the other day to postpon it to next year. We didn't want to wait too long and potentially not get a date we wanted. I have to say I feel better now that we made the decision and know that for us, it's the right thing. Still stinks though lol

Good luck with whatever you decide.

We also postponed our 8/22/2020 NYC wedding to 7/4/2021. We made the decision mid April and were able to reschedule with all our vendors and venue. All the vendors were very understanding and only the venue charged us to move dates. From talking to our vendors it did sound that most couples were postponing. There is so much uncertainty and no actual plan for when and how they will reopen New York as much as I hoped that waiting it out could work- at end for me didn't seem realistic. Though postponing was definitely heartbreaking, once we actually made the decision it gave both me and my fiance the peace of mind we needed.

My advise to you, if you're still debating whether to wait it out or postpone is to have a conversation with your FH about what you want your wedding day to be like. For us, we wanted the big party, all our friends, family, hugging, dancing and no masks. These are strange time we are living, so whatever you choose to do know that everybody will be understanding. Good luck!!

We're scheduled for 9/12 in Westchester and are currently trying to figure out what to do as well. Our venue is allowing us to put a soft hold on a date in 2021 so that we still have some time to make the call. Maybe try and discuss this with your venue and see if they will atleast let you pick a date and ask them to call you if someone else is trying to book it ?

Yes, our venue is flexible,!but we don’t want to postpone. We would still like to be married that day, even if it’s only a small amount of people elsewhere

Thanks! Postponing is not an option for us as we don’t want to wait. So we will have to come up with a back up plan

    Hi, and welcome!

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. I agree with others - it is highly unlikely that NYC will be holding large gatherings this fall. (Broadway is pretty much giving up on the year.... which is a big deal.)

If you're outside the city, you are probably going to be more able to have some kind of small outdoor gathering in September, which might be a good Plan B.

    Good luck!
