September Brides - Save the Dates?

Christina, on April 4, 2020 at 4:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

My wedding is in September this year, but since we just got engaged in mid-January, we haven't sent the save the dates out. We were planning on doing that several weeks ago, but things got crazy with everything going on in the world. Should I send them out now, or wait a month or so to see what the world is like by then? I'm still moving forward as if we will be able to keep our September date, but is it weird to send out save the dates with this all going on? To be asking people to think about a wedding at this point in time when they might be going through a lot? I do want everyone to save the day if they can and they might need to get a hotel, so I'm leaning toward still sending them soon, but I just don't know the etiquette for wedding planning during a pandemic!

My best friend is also getting married September this year and she’s still sending out her invites sometime this month. She’s still planning her wedding as is even without the pandemic

I’ve seen people receive save the dates during this time. I know right now things are crazy, but I would love to receive a save the date- gives me something nice/positive to look forward to.

Well I don't think there's any etiquette about that lol...but I'm a September bride and I sent ours that 2nd week in March. My guests still seem pretty excited and I only had one person ask if I was still going to have it. I'd say go ahead and send them just in case this blows over quickly. That way they'll have time to plan for it!

We sent out our October Save the Dates last week. We opted to go simple with a postcard to cut costs and because we waited so late to advise those to be invited. I think there is nothing wrong with sending one now if you want and then in the next 60-days send your invites.

    Hi Christina,

Congrats on your engagement! It sounds like we may be closer to "normal" around the time of your wedding. YAY! Even if things do escalate, you have a few months before you have to make a decision. I would recommend touching base with your vendors to see if they are making any suggestions at this time.

I also agree with the responses above. There's no handbook for wedding planning during a global pandemic! Here's a related conversation about Covid-19. Wedding 9/4/20 (with some feedback on wording for invitations and your wedding website).
