Kaitlyn, on July 30, 2018 at 8:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 40
Bought my dream dress and just got it back from alterations on the 28th of this month and it is completely ruined and I have no budget for a second dress.. anyone have any ideas? Im marrying my high school sweetheart we’ve been together since we were 15 and Share a three-year-old son together and I am absolutely stressed and exhausted and falling apart that I don’t have a dress and I am few weeks away

Oh no! If it was professional alterations place they would be paying for my dress. What's wrong with it?

The best wedding dress shop around within several hours recommended the alterations lady so I figured she was pretty good at her job but apparently not. It’s torn on the back has blue stains all over it. She took way more off the shoulders so my chest is way above my boobs the back won’t button up now the entire dres is a mess.

To make matters worse she is out of town until August 25 and won’t answer her phone

That is completely awful! And so unprofessional. Either way I would be getting a refund from her. She would pay for the she ruined. And as for a new dress, David bridal sells $99 dresses all the time. Or maybe you could find some off the rack dresses on sale. Or some for sale sites in your area. Some people do donate their wedding dresses to people who need them!

I’m so so sorry this happened. Have you tried calling the wedding store that recommended her? I know they aren’t responsible for the alterations but since the seamstress is out of town maybe they would have some recommendations? Maybe there is another seamstress that can fix some of the work (not knowing what it looks like) or maybe they have other dresses that are available off the rack or around your size?

My city has a local boutique where they make their own dresses. They are already sized so a bride can buy them off the rack - and they are beautiful! Maybe you have a store like that within a few hours drive?

I’m sorry I know none of these options is ideal. Good luck, I really hope it works out for you!

What a horrible situation. I think in your shoes I would be finding something I could afford right now - ModCloth has some beautiful not expensive dresses (some on sale for under $100 right now) and ASOS does as well - and then once your seamstress gets back into town or answers her phone, get your money back from her (and she should be paying you for the ruined dress too). If you can’t contact her for another few weeks, put it on the back burner for now and concentrate on finding something to wear for your wedding. If I wasn’t in Australia I’d be happy to loan you my dress Smiley sad

I just absolutely hate having to just get a plain wedding dress like it’s just really hard having everything I’ve dreamed of for 7 years ruined. We live in a very small town but Greensboro Nc is the closest to us.

I’ll have to Google to see if I can find it. That’s a good drive but doable.. We still have so much to pay for I just don’t know how a dress is going to fit in the budget

I’ll have to message my future mother in law. I left the dress and all the stuff at her house so I wouldn’t be even more upset after picking it up. Smiley sad

Why would they even give you a dress that was torn and has stains on it? That doesn’t really make sense. What was their explanation?

She said that she was in a hurry since she was closing down the shop for the entire month of August and was in a rush so she didn’t charge me the rest of the cost of the alterations but had already paid her several hundred dollars plus the several grand I put into my dream dress.

Why did you leave the shop with the dress if the woman ruined it?

Sorry was typing my last comment while you were commenting. Honestly, if I were you, I would have stayed there until she refunded all my money. And I would have made sure to take pictures of the dress in her shop to add to reviews.

How tall are you and what wedding dress size? I know it's a WAY long shot, but if my dress would fit you, I would ship it to you to use. I have no use for it anymore. It's nothing fancy, but it would be better than nothing?

She was so hateful and said that she couldn’t do anything else because she didn’t charge me for the cost of the rest alterations which I had already paid 400+ and I have my three-year-old son who was with me that’s autistic that got really upset when she started getting rude and just everything started getting worse and worse that I honestly just left. Probably should’ve stayed but nothing would’ve came out of it. She refused to fix or do anything else
