Sending thank you cards before the wedding?

FutureMrsG., on January 27, 2014 at 1:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

We received our first wedding gift this weekend. My first thought was "Damn, I haven't bought thank you cards yet!"

Should I send them a thank you card now or wait until after the wedding?

I send them right away so the guest knows you received the gift.

I think etiquette is to wait to send them. I'd write it now though just so you have less to do later.

I have heard mixed resopnses to that. One idea of thought was, send them after because wedding gifts shouldn't be opened before the wedding.

I sent thank you cards as I received gifts, I think our first one came 8 months before the wedding. Do as many as you can before, it was a huge drag having to do 30+ after the wedding/honeymoon excitement was over.

As a sender, I would like to know a gift has been received so I'm not worried it's gone missing. What I plan on doing is messaging them whichever way I can to let them know it was received and after the event (shower or wedding), I will send a Thank You card.

I talked to our photographer about giving us a couple pictures immediately after the wedding that I could turn into thank you notes, so when we received gifts early I let the guest know thru a message on FB that we received their gift, but wouldn't be opening anything until after the wedding. I had our thank you notes written in the week following the wedding (delayed honeymoon). It was an extra hassle, but worth it to me.

Our gift was huge and our friend actually came and drop it off to us. We received a 70" Vizio Smart TV, I couldn't believe it! They hung the TV that same day.

Ok, so I just ordered our thank you cards and I will send it to him as soon as I receive them.

The "Proper" way is to wait but I've been giving the thank you cards as I get presents! It's easier to keep track of and no body really cares about the "proper" things at weddings anymore!

I sent thank you's for gifts received before the wedding as soon as I could. I think the giver would like to know the item got safely to you, and a huge bonus is that is less notes to write after the wedding. We got almost half our gifts before the wedding, so after the wedding the task of writing all those thank you's was a lot less daunting since we had finished half already.

I've always heard that you have to send a "thank you" before you use the product. I would write and send one, and keep it documented so you know which gifts you have accounted for. You know that after the wedding you will be sending a ton more. Might as well get started and save yourself some time.

I sent a thank you card less than a week after my shower for all the gifts gotten at the shower. For gifts that were received in the mail, I sent the thank you card the next day.

I sent them as soon as I received the gift. Especially cash gifts. I would feel weird cashing a check and then waiting three months to send a thank you note.

I would open it to make sure it did not get damaged in shipping. Then box it up until after the wedding. Send TY card right away so givers know it arrived safely.
