Secure Card Box!

Maria, on January 26, 2014 at 6:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

HI LADIES!!!

I'm looking for a secure card box? Any ideas where to shop? I have heard more and more lately of people stealing the card box from weddings.

Card boxes are being stolen because they are being left unattened. I suggest placing it in a high traffic area where it can be seen during the reception.

I agree with BunnyLove. Our card box was right up in front of our table, right next to our band the entire night. At cocktail hour, guests were told to hang on to cards until they got to the main ballroom.

This was our card box, which we borrowed from my MOH. It has a key and you can lock it.

Isn't stuff like that sad? No one should have to worry about their cards or gifts being stolen on their day. We're having a music theme and wanted to use a guitar case, but due to that same problem we just can't see leaving a guitar case wide open. I'd be paranoid all night. Not due to our guests, but the service people, attendents and so forth. So, we're using an actual guitar and cutting a slit in the top of the body of the guitar. Enter, no exit. We'll have to break that bad boy open to get our cards. Plus, maybe I can do it rock star style Smiley winking

I'm having such a hard time deciding on a card box because of this! FFIL thinks I'm crazy because of how paranoid I am about people possibly stealing our card box.

I plan on having ours on a table right next to the cake for this very reason. It's sad that it's something that has to be kept an eye on but I'd rather be safe than sorry

We're doing ours in an open suitcase. I guess a way to make it secure was getting a combination lock suitcase and cutting a slit in the top for the cards to go in. That way only you know the combo and have access to the cards.

I'm thinking of buying a lock and a chain and somehow attaching it to a chair. Not making it obvious.

Good grief. This is so sad. My cardbox is a very open wood and metal lantern. I'm not sure where we are placing it yet. I'm hoping my faith in people will not be tested that night.

I used the "perfect card box" with the lock and key as well. The reality of our times does not allow for this subject not to be addressed. The box was placed with the hostesses at the sign in book for the ceremony and they transported it to the reception where it sat near the cake table. I had assigned family and friends seated near it as well. We had close to 200 hundred guest and almost all of them blessed us monetarily.

You could always go old school, and carry a white card purse and have people hand you their cards when you greet them.

Pretty much what has been said. Have the card box located where someone that you trust will be situated the whole time during cocktail hour. If you are out getting photos done, you personally can't be watching it.

Put a weight in it. It isn't a bad idea. Nothing wrong with putting a brick in the bottom of the box to throw off anyone that was thinking it would be an easy grab and go.

Take the card box off the gift table and secure it in the locked brides room, locked in a car, or even under the skirt of the head table. It is kinda hard to inconspicuously crawl under the head table to steal cards. Just don't forget that you put it under there when it is time to leave.

This was ours. It was right by the entrance, next to the seating chart and across from the washrooms; so very visibly. Plus our wedding coordinator's husband is a retired cop. He took our card box and all gifts that were brought to the reception to their vehicle just after dinner since everyone would have deposited their card and/or gift already.

I don't see a point in getting a "secure" lock box. If it's not in a high traffic area, someone could just grab the whole box. They can always smash the wood when the get it away. Just put it in a high traffic area (preferably by the stage or dj), and assign someone to collect them after dinner and put them somewhere safe- maybe a locked office or getting ready room? I'm doing a birdcage, and I'm going to lock it in the green room we are getting ready in. It is pretty sad that you have to think of these things, but them's the facts of life.

Not only put it in an open area but put someone in charge of keeping an eye on it. Not someone in your bridal party but someone who you trust 100% who would think to and has a chance glance at it all night that Noone would know about except for that person, you, and FH
