Save the Date Magnets or Cards/Postcards

Former MDLS now Mrs. K, on November 24, 2009 at 1:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 23

The whole point of save the date cards is so that your guests will remember your wedding day, with that being said, would it be better to order magnets or postcards/cards? I'm thinking that perhaps the postcards/cards will just get thrown away and that perhaps the better idea is to order the magnets? What have you all experienced with this?

I honestly am not doing save the dates! I think that that is something that can be cut out to save money! When I myself have recieved STD I honestly just threw them away!! I did get one that was a magnet and to this day it is still on my fridge!! Very handy! LOL! So if i were to do them i would go with Magnets!!!!

I think its important to send save the dates....espeically if you have a lot of out of town guests. I made my own, which saved a lot of money and added a personal touch

I preferred magnets. When we took our engagement pics we purchased the actual disk of all the shots then ordered the "greeting cards". One of the templates was for save the date so thats how we made ours. Then I went to Walmart and bought a roll of magnet with adhesive on the back. Cut the magnets into strips and attached to the back of our greeting card....it came out really nice, everyone loved them.

I agree with 91810 bride you don't really need save the dates. An email and word of mouth will suffice. We had 98% out of town guests and did this and it was fine. But I know that wasn't your question. So, my suggestion is that if the STD has your photo on it, make it a postcard, but if it has a design only then it can be a magnet. It can be a little weird to have your friend's photo on your fridge.

If you do decide to do STD's, www.vistaprint.com has free postcards or free magnets or free photo magnets. You just pay the shipping Smiley smile

I agree magnets are the best option! If you get postcards they'll probably just be tossed with other mail and eventually thrown out. But keep in mind that a lot of people (like me) will probably throw the magnet out once the wedding is over so you don't wan to spend a whole lot of money on them.

Jennifer gave you a great website (vistaprint)... look around on there you can create some that aren't too big or too small for a good price. Also, if you're ordering more than the 20 or whatever it is that they give you for free then you may want to google coupons for vistaprint... they have some out there that are half off and it really does work. Just so you have an idea... I got 250 of them for about $40. Plus you get to design them yourself which is great!

I agree with everyone else too, the magnets are best option, ppl will def put them on the fridge and it is something they will see everyday. One of my good friends got married last year, and she did STD Magnets, but remember if you do them on your own, bring them into the post office, b/c she went to drop hers in the mailbox outside and then when she opened it back up again she said half of her STD were still stuck to the top of the mailbox. So she pushed them down into the mail box, but soon after she realized, o now what happens if they get stuck to the inside...to this day she isnt sure if everyone recieved their STD (she had 200 ppl)..just a little FYI =)

I chose magnets and just mailed out my save the dates a few days ago. My fh's co-worker (man) had said that he was searching for a magnet to place the save the date on his refrigerator and then he realized the save the date WAS a magnet! LoL He thought it was a great idea. Smiley winking Hope that little story helped you decide.

I absolutely would not waste my money on magnets. Maybe I'm just weird, but I have this thing called a calendar and that's where I put all my important information. If I got an email, phone call, post card, magnet, whatever, I would simply enter the date on my calendar and toss the correspondence that came with it. I wouldn't clutter up my refrigerator with a magnet. Just my 2 cents. Smiley smile

I attached magnets to the back of the invites for my sister's engagement party and they were a big hit.

If your frugal/ DIY like me, do the save the dates postcards from vistaprint.com. FREE for a 100 and I bought adhesive magnets from oriental trading and place them on the back of the postcards. My friends say, they are still holding on, : ) if you like to see a pic just let me know.

I agree with the magnet people. People are less likely to throw them away and not everyone writes things on their calendars. Besides if you are like me you don't have your 2010 calendars yet. I don't get mine until Christmas.

I myself am not doing Save-the-Dates to save money. But as far as your question I think magnets are your best bet. That way people will keep those.

I would go with the magnets! That is such a unique idea and it will stay on the fridge and they can keep them as sort of a reminder of the wedding!

I chose magnets because I was pretty confident the postcards would end up in the trash. Initially I didn't think Id be able to afford them but Thank God for Vista Print! Check them out. Im super excited because I just finished ours and added to engagement picts to it for a very great rate! In fact 50% off and they ALWAYS have deals like that!

Ok mine came in yesterday! As someone else said don't bother paying extra money for quick shipping...they were here in no time! I must admit they are a tad flimsy, but I will not complain for the price and quality they are amazing! I also ordered matching address labels.

    .

I ordered fuchsia envelopes and tangerine folded cards from the papersource.com and I plan to place the magnet in the card using photo ends and put a monogram sticker on the front of the card. I will post picts when Im done Smiley winking

    .

If you are thinking of ordering from vistaprint do it and get the postcard size...it's worth the money!Plus they give you tons of coupons as well!

I like magnets. My wife and I have a collection of them on our fridge of all the weddings of our friends and family. They hang around a lot longer than the wedding favors and remind us of fun weddings long after the couple is married.
