Sandals Alternatives?

Mrs. Carmen, on March 4, 2010 at 2:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

FH and I wanna do an all inclusive thing. We've been looking at Sandals St. Lucia, but I read a couple weeks ago that there are places that are just like sandals, but offer more, and cost less. Anyone know the names of some of these places, average prices, and the islands they're on?

Oh and we plan to stay a week to 10 days wherever we go.

We actually are going to book Cozumel, Mexico through Apple Vacations. ITs all inclusive and very beautiful and it cost us under 1500 for both of us with air fare. Just a thought and good luck. Also if you dont want mexico still check out Apple Vacations they have alot to offer and for great prices!

Palace Resorts are great, located throughout Mexico and Punta Cana DR. I have been to Sun Palace and Aventura Spa, wonderful time. Excellence is another good resort as well as the ones Analy recommended

FH was set on Jamaica but didn't want to do Sandals or Beaches... he wanted more relaxed and laid back. We went with Couples Swept Away Negril. It looks beautiful (online) and got great reviews.

We were looking into the same thing - there is almond bay resorts on st lucia that offers all inclusive, and rendezvous resort also. And I think its coconut bay too. I have been looking on cheapcaribbean.com, and also funjet.com - which offers better pricing than going through resort itself. Those sites also offer sandals at a better price! G'Luck, and youll have to keep us posted where you go, (esp if you still go to St. Lucia, b/c our wedding isnt for another year after yours) =)

The only thing is you have to compare what each resort offers for their all inclusive - some have restaurants with surcharges, you get the cheap alcohol, but have to pay for premium. So just be sure to check that out, from what we have noticed, it still seems that we may get more with sandals - but we havent looked a whole lot into it, just briefly.

Aventura split its property last year and the south side (Cove) now allows kids, but the north side (Spa) is still adults only. Adults have access to whole resort, but if you go to south side for dinner, there will be kids at restaurants.

I was told by a travel agent that Iberostar resorts are great also. I am thinking about Palace in Puerto Vallarta. I really want to go to puerto vallerta... can go for 6 nights all inclusive for under 2000 (air included).

Actually. FH is really set on St. Lucia (and the more I read, the more I am too) and I've been looking around at all inclusive packages all night. It really seems like Sandles is going to be the best bet, despite the hour and a half drive to Soufriere, which is where I really wanna go.

Has anyone booked with Sandles before? It's saying "hold today: $400". I've never booked anything like this in my life. Meaning a plane or a resort stay. Does that mean I can just give them a $400 deposit and pay the rest off later? Can I make payments? I mean I guess I could pay for it all right now, but it'd be nicer to not have to worry about it for a little bit.

See? This line of thinking is the reason why I don't have a credit card. lol.

A lot of time if you use a travel agent, they can get you upgrades because of their relationship with the resorts. They can also keep track of price changes. Travel agents don't charge a fee, at least the ones I use, never do.

Then how do they make their money? What company do you use? If it's not going to cost me even more, I'll just do that. Cause there's tons of stuff FH and I want to do while we're there, and it'd just be so much easier if the stuff was already reserved and such for us and all we gotta worry about is showing up.

Haha. I wish I could. I suffer from manic depression. One of the crap parts (well I guess they're all crap parts) of mania is insomnia. I'll go months only sleeping a couple hours a day. And while I'm very tired, the moment I lie down, there's nothing I can do to fall asleep.
