Sample wedding gown?

Laura, on September 4, 2019 at 8:14 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 11

Has anyone ordered a sample gown from a salon that they have not seen in person? Or has anyone just seen a photo of a dress and ordered it without seeing it in person first? Where are my wild and daring brides? lol! Yes, I ordered a sample, sight unseen. However, I can return it and I did try it on in a different color at my local salon. Gulp.

Yep! I ordered my dress sight unseen but I was allowed to pick it up to save on shipping. I never tried on my dress before I bought it. I never tried on dresses period!

And I must say it was a gamble that paid off. I love my dress. ❤️ My sample was obviously damaged but I found an awesome seamstress that made it look like new without charging a fortune. I will always encourage brides to buy sample gowns, especially taller brides that can’t buy altered used dresses.

For me it just happened to be the dress that I fell in love with, but not the price; to order it was triple. So I gambled. I hope it pays off - I was told no damage. Fingers crossed!!!

Hey Laura! You must be so excited to get your dress! Do you know what you will get to see it for the first time?

What is it like? What color did you order it in?

It's already been mailed, so I have tracking information. I get to see my dress on Tuesday. It is supposed to be ivory - lace, lining, and mesh. I will say that was my one compromise. I had wanted white. However, the samples I could find were all ivory. Luckily, I had tried on the dress in a salon which was a different combination, so I knew to check that all the different fabrics were all ivory. Mine has lace cap sleeves, sweetheart neckline, and is fit and flare.

This has been the oddest way to order a wedding dress. I tried it on and loved it but just couldn't justify 3k - I didn't ask to purchase their sample because it was the wrong color (it was much darker - even darker than champagne). My sample came in at under a third of that. I think salons are starting to move their samples out of this style. (I found 4 that I could have bought, but choose this one because the salon would accept returns.

Imagine coming home from dress shopping to google the heck out of the dress to find the sample. And then negotiating buying it. Such a funny way to get 'the dress!' Smiley winking I'm not posting my dress yet, but I want to so bad!

I tried on a few dresses but none of them are anything like the dress that I bought online.

I was a bit apprehensive but the site I used (JJs house) does custom measurements which they got pretty close to exact. So far my only alteration is the shoulders and adding of sleeves (which i knew I was going to need).

Hi Laura! I purchased BOTH my ceremony and reception dress online without trying them on at all! They are both designer gowns (Hayley Paige and Calla Blanche) and I got them both about 80% off, brand new with tags!! I had major anxiety but seriously they are perfect so don’t worry I’m sure you will love it! Here’s some pics!

I actually HAD to order my dress site unseen due to it being a discontinued gown. They only offered it online in ivory and in 2 sizes. Took a gamble that the larger size would fit. Didn’t at first, but with some knowledgeable hands of my seamstress and a few tugs here, sucking it in there, and a prayer to every god, it fit! And like it was molded just for my body Haha I was in such awe that I forgot to take pix before leaving it with the tailor for slight alterations and strengthening :/
