Rustic wedding menu?

Megan, on July 2, 2014 at 7:16 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

Okay ladies. Help me out here. I was gonna just do a very small amount of food as some of you already know, but thinking about it & talking to the FH (& listening to y'alls advise) we've decided that's a bad idea.

We're gonna have a rustic wedding. Mason Jars, Lace, & a whole lot of twine! LOL. But I can't seem to think of ANYTHING rustic for food.

& I KNOW! I'm planning way ahead. BUT, that's simply because of two reasons. ONE because I work two jobs (80hrs a week), while having a 6 month old baby girl. SECOND, I'm doing 99% of my wedding DIY. I have the BEST Maid of Honor who loves DIY & can't wait to start helping me with all of it.

So here we go ladies! Give me your BEST ideas (:

When I think of rustic, I think of comfort foods but with a gourmet twist to the preparation, things like this:

-A dressed up mac and cheese (smoked gouda is TO DIE FOR!)

    -Fried chicken

    -Pulled pork sliders

    -roasted veggies

-a green salad of some sort

    -corn bread

    -sweet potato

-garlic mashed potato (a mashed potato bar would be fun!)

-baked beans, corn on the cob, asparagus

    -potato salad

-Galvanized wash tubs filled with ice to hold the beverages

    -Rhubarb, apple, strawberry pies

I am doing a rustic wedding and this is what I am doing:

    -Whole Hog Roast

    - Baked Beans

    - Potato Salad

    - Fruit Salad

    - Seven Layer Salad

    - Cabbage Rolls (FOB hath spoken!)

    - Veggie Trays

    - Corn On The Cob -- if it looks GOOD next May

My idea is what you would find if you go to one of my family reunions (We are all country-kids at heart).

We are doing tubs for drinks, but no pies.

    Seven layer salad is:

There are tons of varieties. But this one is the closest to what we eat. And it really is delicious!

I would get wooden planks/boards for the food, then chalk boards to write the menu on:

    - seasonal veggies - cooked or fresh with dips

    -tapas of meats/chicken

    -cheese board

    -breads/gourmet sandwiches

    -fresh salad bar

    -tacos/nachos

    -individual tartlets

    -individual beef wellingtons

    This menu is awesome:

We are doing Old Carolina BBQ for our wedding. The reception has a rustic feel to it- it'll be in an 1880's renovated barn. We're having smoked turkey (best turkey I've ever had), pulled pork, green beans, mashed potatoes, salad & rolls.

We have the choice of quail. Is that rustic enough?

KristenMichelle, when I think rustic, I do think about game meats including things like quail.

Rustic just means made in a simple fashion.

My one cousin had a BBQ reception with family to celebrate her and her husband's marriage because they got married in Charlotte (she's from Pocono area PA, and the ceremony was only immediate family)

They had: BBQ chicken, hot dogs, sloppy joes, a pickle bar, olive bar, potato salad, fruit salad and chips. I think they may have had grilled corn on the cob too. I helped my mom make the candy bar and "card bucket".

Making homemade pickles is something you and your FH could do together too. Its surprisingly easy and actually a lot of fun. We made spicy pickles last year and they were delicious!
