Running out of money...can't pay for wedding 3 months away.

DualyBride, on April 15, 2010 at 12:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 39

Hey I guys, I'm a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding where the bride is a little on the money she needs to pay off the wedding. She needs $5,000 more dollars and the wedding is 3 months away. Does anyone have any ideas on how to generate extra cash quick! So far we've thought of fundraisers, yard sales, and asking family and friends to gift money instead of gifts. But even with all of our efforts, its still not going to bring us to $5,000. I'll take Any and all suggestions!!!! LOL. Thanks.

I agree, yard sales or things of that nature, maybe sell some things on ebay...best thing is to ask family and friends, if they are willing. If it were me, I would be making cuts to my list or things in the wedding to be able to pay for my own wedding....just sayin.

That's not good at all! i have no idea how to generate 5000 in 3 months but getting a second job (while not fun) is a big help. Also there are sites to register for cash gifts.

Can they cut costs at all?! That's A LOT of money....I guess if you can't cut anything and you can't get the money, a low interest loan would be ok...but that's scary... it's not good to finance your wedding.

Have the invites gone out yet? Can they cut the guest list at all? Is there any part of that $5000 they can get out of?

So...how will they make it after the wedding...if they can't handle wedding finances?

I'm sorry, but it really is only one day. Cutting costs is her best bet.

Is there anything the bride can cancel? Like the limo or some of the other extras?

Quick fix and a very last resort is to apply for a loan at a bank, or take a loan on a 401k if all the options don't work.

Thank you all for your responses. Everything that can be cut, is going to be. She is going to cut down the list...which will actually bring her costs, but its not by much. And family and friends are going to help.....She is trying to figure things out, but I just wanted to see if there was anything else that we could do.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

She needs to make $1666 a month to fill that gap. Only thing I can think of is getting another job and working her tail off. Me & fh are thinking about doing the census...

Has she tried negotiating with the photog? Venue? There has to be some things she can do without.

For example: Don't hire a make-up artist. Forgo the honeymoon.

I just don't see how she is not on point...she's about to go into a marriage for goodness sakes! lol Lemme log off now.

I would cut the limo, most of the flowers, and the guest list. Every little penny adds up, so the more you cut the less the shortfall is...

I know I may cause an uproar by saying this, but maybe she should try to postpone it to a later date. That way the money lost will be minimum and she'll have more time to get the funds she needs. Plus she'll still be able to have the wedding she wants.

She has a part time job, but its not going to be enough. Although the wedding is only 3 months away, the venue has to be paid off 30 days before, so technically she only has 2 months. Her mom is going to pay the limo off....and she can't afford to push it back anymore (she's already pushed it back once). I think her flowers are paid off.

If her mom is going to pay for the limo, why not ask mom for the limo money to use on the venue. It'll be pretty sad to have a paid limo but no dinner

LOL...Mrs. Joseph, that's true. I'll tell her that. She actually cut out the bridal gifts. Instead she's giving us a bridal luncheon. (It's still an expense but its cheaper). I'll also tell her about the soda cans LovelyUnique....how much did your friend make from doing that? LOL.

I completely are with MrsJoseph--don't have the limo, regardless of who is paying. That is good money that can go somewhere else. Other vehicles work just as well as limos.

There are places online the specialize in wedding loans that she could try if she's comfortable. Just google "bridal loans."
