RSVP yes and not show?

Long story short, we had SIXTEEN people RSVP yes to the wedding and then not show up. Very, very annoying. My question is, with a few of these people, I considered them close friends. One in particular, she was making a huge deal about coming and seemed very excited. She didn't show and never said a word about it, until she just invited me to her baby shower (for her third kid of the same gender within five years, but that's beside the point). Should I mention it? She never brought it up or asked how it went, but I'm sure she's busy... I don't know. I just feel a little awkward? Should I feel awkward? I don't know. :/

If people have baby showers for every baby they have. I said after every 5 years of marriage we have a bridal shower cause by then all our bedding and sheets and pots and pans are shot. Very low class of her

I would not go to the shower, not because she did not come to the wedding but because it's the third kid in five years of the same gender. Just blatantly gift grabby. I mean what's left that you did not save from the first two? Diapers? Upgraded stroller? At some point it's her kid and she needs to put up the money for their needs.

No one has a problem with people on here having showers for marriages after the first one or people who live together using the shower to upgrade stuff, so why would people have a problem with having a shower for each baby? Although around here it's called a "sprinkle" to indicate the parents don't need much, it's mostly an excuse for a party.

By your original post we know the woman has two kids under 5 and a third on the way that will be here soon. Give her a break! I am sure she has a thousand things going on at any given time. Maybe she sent a card or something with a note and gift afterward and it got lost in the mail. Just call her. But if you were really upset you should have called or texted her within a few days to make sure she was alright and they weren't in the hospital or something!

I'm surprised you never said anything. I would have already given her quite the talking to. Rsvping yes means that you paid for her plate and found room for her. Not showing is super rude. Unless something crazy happened.

I wouldn't attend this shower but I would want to be a jerk about it. I would call her and be like "I wanted to let you know as soon as possible that I can't make it to your shower. I'm giving you a call so that it won't inconvenience you later. I just wanted to do this the *right* way"

It is rude as fuck, but I wouldn't bring it up, nor would I go to the shower.

I"d also be re-evaluating my friendships with these people. There are very few really good excuses for not showing and not at least calling to apologize AND IMHO, send a nice fat check is truly beyond rude.

I keep hearing the phrase "25% of guests who RSVP yes do not show." Isn't that crazy?? My mother said it was exactly true for my sister's wedding and aunt's wedding, but maybe our family is just a bunch of weirdos. Smiley winking I'm making a post about this.

For your one friend in particular: That sucks. I'm really surprised it hasn't been brought up in conversation yet, but I would for sure talk to her about it. You just never know what's going on with someone else. Maybe she did send you something, it got lost, and she's wondering why you never thanked her.

I definitely would have asked. We had zero no shows. Everyone who could not attend at the last minute contacted us to let us know.

100% with @MrsD17 and nothing to add. If a "close friend" doesn't attend my wedding after tjey RSVP yes, and they don't bother to tell me why... you better believe that relationship will be demoted to acquaintances. And no need to tell them or confront them... I would just stop making them a priority in my life.

I'm with the rest of the petty girls. I wouldn't attend, buy a gift or even rsvp. And if I did rsvp I would rsvp yes and not show. ... a wedding is much more important than a baby shower and u deserved an explanation for her no show. U paid for her to have a meal and she left you hanging. Knowing damn well how much wedding cost. Anddddd she WAS a good friend of yours. Girl byeee

We were fortunate to have zero no shows. I would have been hurt if we did get any and it's hard to image how I would react. I did had one close friend who missed the entire ceremony and was walking up as we were exiting and I was annoyed! I talked to her about it, she blamed it on traffic and her kids, and it was fine after. The key to good relationships is good communication. If she's your close friend work it out with her.

I can't believe some of the responses telling the OP to be an adult and making excuses for the horrible behavior of this guest. I don't care if she is pregnant and has 12 kids at home, you don't rsvp "yes" to a wedding and then no-show. It is rude as hell. If an emergency came up, she could have contacted the OP later with an explanation, but she has done nothing. This is not the OP's fault. The onus was on the guest to offer an explanation and an apology.

And I'm sorry, a third baby shower is greedy AF.

I might be the pettiest of them all. She would no longer be a friend of mine. I dont even care that she has had a million baby showers in 5 years. Because I would still support my gift grabby friend. But RSVP yes to my wedding, dont show up, NEVER say anything about it, or ask how it went. Yeah we USE to be friends.

Girlfriend - if she never showed up, never asked you how your wedding went, never sent you a simple card in mail......she isn't your close friend, she's not even an acquaintance. SORRY, but NOT SORRY.

ETA - are you sure she feels the same way about you as you feel about her? the only way I wouldn't even ask someone how their wedding went is if I honestly don't give two craps about this person and even in that case, I might still ask to be nice.

I don't think it's "petty" to not attend the baby shower. It's an invite not a requirement and it sounds like you've gifted them things in the past. I don't know what point of bringing it up would be though. It's super frustrating but any excuse she has is probably just as frustrating. Even if she had a good excuse for not going to your wedding she should have let you know afterwards.

Wow. @Stephanie it's definitely not normal in most areas to have a baby shower, sprinkle, whatever for every child and yes, actually, I would side-eye a bridal shower for a second time bride. This is incredibly gift grabby and by your third child, you can certainly buy your own f-ing stroller.

For those who are saying they wouldn't really care if their friend did this, wtf? This person RSVP'd, locking the couple in to spending $$ on their plates, then never showed up and never said anything about it. Seriously? "people forget"- um no, I don't just "forget" about my friend's wedding, no matter how busy I am. Then to have the nerve to invite you to her self-hosted shower? Hard pass for me and I would certainly not be putting ANY effort into continuing this friendship.

I hate when people have multiple baby showers. I wouldn't go. I also would just decline. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I would not say anything but wouldn't go to her shower either. It's rude and inconsiderate
