How much is too much to ask people to spend on a hotel room? I live close to Boston, Ma and have received a quote for $219 per night plus tax for a mini suite (all rooms are suites) usual price for june is $259-299 per night plus tax. Im not sure if thats too much for a room block. I know that...

I know that obviously people dont have to use the hotel we block, but would like to make it as easy as possible and have people all in one hotel...I dont want the price to turn them off! Just looking for opinions on how much is too much!

Usually, when you book a block, you do so at different hotels so that they have different price points. This way, the wealthier guests you mentioned can stay in the 5-star expensive hotel while the guests who don't want to spend that much can stay at the less expensive 3-star hotel. There are hotels in all price points in Boston. You can definitely do better than $219.

I plan to do a hotel block at a fancier hotel around that price and then have a second block at a hotel more reasonably priced (120ish). That way people can chose what they would like based on their budget and preferences. I would honestly not want to spend 220 a night for a hotel

I reserved a block at a moderately priced hotel ($160) and then I reserved a block at a fancier hotel ($240), so people have options. I know my family would prefer cheaper, but we have a few friends that are wealthy and prefer quality.

ETA: side story- I went to a wedding in February and the bride didn't reserve a block, and we ended up paying $400 last minute for one night. So lame.

My rooms in suburban Atlanta are $119 with the conveniences of a great hotel however no breakfast Smiley sad and no free airport shuttle. So it's ok in and of itself but the hotel just doesn't do freebies.

My bachelorette is happening in Boston (wedding is north of the city ) and my girls were having trouble finding a hotel for the night that was affordable. Based on their research, I think your block sounds ok! Boston is just incredibly expensive.

"I'm in NH and rooms are $250-$450 a night and it's a 2 night minimum stay"

@Ashley, you're getting screwed. There is no way you can't find a hotel for cheaper in NH. No way. Even if you're in the White Mountains during foliage or ski season, you will find hotels cheaper than that. You should use Expedia or hotels.com, then call the hotels with reasonable prices for your date and negotiate for a discount on that.

@Sarahmouche same goes for Boston. Your wedding is a little different because it's on New Year's Day, but depending on where your bachelorette is (assuming it's not NYE), you can absolutely find hotel prices around the Boston area for less than $200. For Christmas weekend, for example, the InterContinental (a 5-star in downtown Boston) is $195, the Fairmont Copley Plaza (another 5-star) is $167, then Lenox is $166, the Marriott Copley Plaza is $129. Check hotels.com.

I'm in Birmingham, AL and my hotel is 119 a night which I thought was great for a newly renovated gorgeous place just a few miles from my venue but we had some people tell us it was too much for them so you're always going to get a mix of people who will book elsewhere. But, if that pricing is fair for your area, then go for it.

Book a couple of room blocks to give people options and if they don't like the price, they can search themselves. I book our room block in one place but there are lots of places around our venue that might be cheaper.

My hotel rooms are beach front and are 150 and 170 for the two hotels we used. I would forgo doing suites and look at a different hotel. Many families will most likely not be able to afford that.

We are getting married in Boston in November. The actual venue where Our wedding is offers a block at 299 per night which h obviously most guests aren't going to do so i looked at others. Our room blocks quotes were all in the 200s with one exception at 160 per night in back bay. We used the Wedding Wire room block service which was way easier than calling around.

It depends on your location. I've been to weddings where the only hotels around are really expensive because of location and time of year so what could you do about that? I would go with the cheapest and also what fits you. I'm going with a hotel that has a bar open til 2 am for an after party it a decent hotel and should cost guests 145 dollars a night

@mrs k and @melanie - loveddddd sapphire estates! Ended up going with a hotel venue in Cambridge because Sharon wasn't convenient for a lot of our guests who have to fly in and we were worried our guest list was just barely too big. Gorgeous venue though!!

    (Sorry, getting off topic...)

Basically, Boston is expensive. You're also getting married during graduation season and the height of summer tourist season in Boston so hotel prices may just be up at that time of year. Just do the best you can!
