How much is too much to ask people to spend on a hotel room? I live close to Boston, Ma and have received a quote for $219 per night plus tax for a mini suite (all rooms are suites) usual price for june is $259-299 per night plus tax. Im not sure if thats too much for a room block. I know that...

I know that obviously people dont have to use the hotel we block, but would like to make it as easy as possible and have people all in one hotel...I dont want the price to turn them off! Just looking for opinions on how much is too much!

@Mrs. K - it depends on the time of year. I spent a year working in a hotel in Boston, and we had some wedding blocks in July that would be $299+. There's no set "weddings get x discount," because there are about a million factors that go into hotel room pricing. If you think it's too much, call around. Try looking for limited service hotels (if it's a Hilton that quoted you this price, look for a Hilton Garden Inn). From my experience, it looks like you got yourself a pretty decent deal for June in Boston.

My wedding is at a hotel in Cambridge MA and they offered us a block for $259 based on double occupancy, so I'd say your rate is pretty good for the area. Boston is ridiculously expensive! I'm also planning to look for a lower option as well.

I'm waiting on a quote from a Courtyard Marriott who's regular prices are lower than that hotels quote. They also give us perks if we book a block with them (free upgrade to a suite, and if we have 15 rooms actually book we get our suite for free and 10% off a breakfast buffet the next day). Both hotels are in the same general area, so hopwfully this one will be a little cheaper!

I think it is all dependent on your area. I'm in middle of nowhere Pa and our rooms are $104. I'm sure there is cheaper but I wanted the nicest/closest hotel to our venue. If guests don't like it they can find one in their budget. A good idea would be to list alternative hotels on your wedding website so the guests have a quick list to reference.

I am from the Boston area as well, are you getting married somewhere in the city? Could you block rooms in a hotel in a surrounding town and plan a shuttle?

I would shoot for $120-150, but I understand in boston that may be difficult. Ours are $119 a night for suites just outside of Philadelphia.

Blargh. I hate expensive hotels but I am getting married in literal vacationland (southern Maine) in August and almost no one does blocks on weekends. The only place that I could get to give me a block was $259/night. I am telling people to look into airbnb and rentals as well but it irks me how expensive everything is.

We are getting married in Halifax and the closet hotels are Plymouth which just isn't cheap in the summer at all Smiley sad We actually toured a place in Sharon that was gorgeous. The prices just sky rocket once the weather gets warm

I personally wouldn't want to spend over 200 for a one night stay. Anything from 100-150 would be more reasonable. I'd look around for other hotels in that area. Maybe use 2 hotels for room blocks.

That's a good price for the Boston area. Maybe find a second without suites that might be cheaper? We have $199 and $159 at two different hotels in Cambridge for November (plus tax).

@melanie m was it the sapphire?? That was our runner-up!

For Boston that's awesome! I live near Boston and its unbelievably expensive! Our rooms for Sturbridge area are 185 so I think your price is reasonable

I would recommend getting a second block at a lesser expensive hotel as well. Our venue runs $350-400/night with a 2 night minimum. While a lot of our guests are still paying that to stay at the venue, we listed other hotels in the area and got a hotel block at Marriott for $150 for those that can't afford the venue. We have the additional hotels and room block listed on our wedding website.

Btw, that is reasonable for Boston. I travel there often for work and that's on the lower end. People can choose to stay outside the city limits, obviously.

The way I did it- I got the room block at the nicer, expensive hotel closest to our reception so they can get a deal. There's always cheaper options a little further out if people think that's a better option for them. But why block at a discount rate at an already discount hotel?

@Mrs. K I blocked rooms in Plymouth Ma for $189.00 and that's during October. I thought that was a little high but after looking around it was one of the cheaper rates we got. I think the rates you got are great!
