Ring Sizing when you seems to be in between sizes...

Amy, on October 3, 2018 at 11:01 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
So I got my engagement ring as I think a 5.5 and I think I'm probably an odd in between size. It's just loose enough to spin/wiggle around a little but not enough that I can confidentially go down a to a 5. It's been something like 10 months since I started wearing it and it's never been in danger of falling off but juuuust big enough to be annoyingly noticable.

Now that I'm get my wedding band I'm ordering online and wondering if I should stick with my engagement size or try a size down and wear it in front of my engagement ring to kind of... Protect it from ever slipping off? But I'm so worried about it getting stuck or being hard to get on during the wedding! If you are an in between size which way to do you go? Is on the bigger side better because that's easier to resize down instead of up?

Our jeweler is local. I had the same issue. I literally walked in and he took the ring in the back, sized it down a quarter of a size, brought it out for me to try on, then adjusted slightly more in under 10 minutes. I highly recommend a local jeweler because of this. Also, whenever I need it cleaned, it’s free and takes less than 15 min. Never have to go a day without my ring if I need work done.

I'd got for someone that can do quarter sizes- I'm a 3.75 and a 3.5 or 4 for sure don't work for me!

You can get a tiny insert piece that will fit under the ring, so it will not be that loose. One thing to consider: If you intend to get pregnant and have children, starting around the fourth month you may not be able to wear your ring, unless it starts ½ size bigger than you need prepregnancy. This is from fluid you put on from hormone changes, even if you gain no weight other that full breasts and baby bump. Some people lose the fluids early, others gain wt. And do not lose it fast. Obviously, if you do not want children, or not for years, getting the ring you have now sized down, and buying the other smaller, makes sense. But if pregnancy is in your plans in next year or two, an inexpensive insert may be better. You can only take out metal to make a ring smaller, then semi-melt what is left and stretch the bottom thinner to make ring bigger again, so ma y times. For pregnancy or weight gain. So while you are ring shopping, consider an insert, to try on.

I am in between sizes too but once I added the wedding band it actually keeps the e-ring in place and sometimes even feels snug. Both rings are the same size and I wear the band on the bottom like it traditionally is worn.

    Quarter sizes do exist.

i wouldn’t go too drastic with size difference— keep in mind your e ring will fit differently when there’s 2 rings in your finger— it will make everything a little more snug.

I would definitely try to get a quarter size or see if another jeweler will size it down a quarter size for you! My engagement ring was a 5.5, now it is like a 5.3 (long story short, it had to be cut off, so it got sized weirdly upon repairing it) and it's still too loose and I'm always afraid it's going to slip off! I'll probably get it sized down again soon either to a 5.25 or maybe even a 5. I hate always worrying that I'm going to lose it!
