Returning Gifts?

Mandi, on May 11, 2020 at 9:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
If you cancel the wedding, you return the gifts.
But what if coronavirus cancels your wedding twice?
We pushed the wedding back 7 months. Eloped on our original date. But now it looks like in order to have our original wedding plans play out, we have to be in stage 5. Stage 5 means a vaccine or a cure available. Stage 4 is a group of 50 or less.
So my question... if we cancel our second wedding, and decide not to reschedule, done have to return gifts?
Because, we've definitely been using the gifts while locked down.

I think canceling your wedding and returning gifts is more so if you and your partner end the engagement prior to the wedding. If you keep having to cancel/postpone due to the coronavirus you don't have to return gifts.

I wouldn’t return them since you did get married. It’s not your fault there was a worldwide pandemic. Plus you can’t return gifts you’ve used.

I’m agreeing with the others here. Returning the gifts is expected for an ended engagement not for an eloped marriage.

I think returning gifts is necessary when the wedding is called off. Rescheduling due to a pandemic one would think is the exception! I think we should all get gifts right now...LOL You get a gift, you get a gift, everyone gets a gift!

No it's not necessary to return the gifts. Just send out the thank you notes to those that have sent you gifts, just as you would after the wedding. Congratulations!

You’re married, so you don’t need to return the gifts.

You got married, so you can keep the gifts. Plus, you've already used them.

Have you sent thank you cards?

Since you eloped, a wedding did happen so you are fine to keep them.
