Response cards: Mail-in vs. Online

Angela, on January 8, 2013 at 8:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

I'm currently working on our invitations and we've come to a fork-in-the-road. Mail-in or online responses? I was just curious what other people have chosen to do and how it worked out.

I'm going to be putting an insert in my invitations with information on how to RSVP online, and below in smaller print I am going to include our address for an alternative method to RSVP. I'm doing this to save some money on envelopes and stamps, and also because the RSVP app for the WW website keeps track of all the responses for me so I don't have to! Win-win : )

I was told at Wedding 101 (vendor resource for wedding planning) that it's appropriate to do online now. That's our plan. We figure everyone either has access to a computer, or knows one of us and can tell us directly.

We did both. All our guests are computer savvy, but all but one mailed the card back.

Mail-in. I would never do something like that Online. but my family is really old-fashioned about such things. I would have so gotten B****ed out.

We did online only. Then again, our friends run toward the geekish. Only one couple had any problem with the online RSVPs.

I sent out formal rsvp cards but on the bottom I gave them the option to respond by visiting our website. However, a lot of our older guests have chosen to respond by mail. I felt the same as you that it was a waste of money but now I am glad that I did send out the formal rsvp cards because some people would have been confused .......but again its your choice and your budget.

We did both. I made postcards that had an RSVP option to return the card as well as listed our email and website. We prestamped the cards that went to people we thought would have issues rsvping online like grandparents and such. So far I have gotten online responses and mail responses Smiley smile

I did both and most ppl just rsvped online n didn't even bother with the mailed one. I would suggest doing online for tech savvy guests and mailing invites only to the older, more traditional folks.

Like most brides that posted, we did both. My MIL was great about RSVP'ing for people who weren't computer savvy [:

In the invitations, we had the RSVP card w/envelope, as well as a separate card with wedding website info on it.

We are considering both as well, however for some of the older guests...like my grandmother who doesnt go online, we are going to send a traditional reply card. Basically we are deeming anyone who has a facebook as being savy enough to rsvp online lol.

I did online only, and wish I had done both. First "real" wedding on both sides of the family, and so many people didn't even realize that I really did need them to RSVP. About 40ish people RSVPed online without a problem, but many family members had to be asked in person and I updated the RSVP on my phone.

Or I wish I'd done online and maybe a Google voice number for people to call. That may have worked as well as mail in response cards for me. I dunno, but I do suggest a combo.

And yes, everyone was computer savvy, just not the importance of RSVPing savvy. Smiley smile

I'm doing mail-in. We have a lot of guests that aren't computer savvy, and I love old-fashioned invitations, anyways.

I had my wedding already and did both, I even put stamps on the envelopes. I still did not get responses and ended up calling everyone that was attending. Make sure you get phone numbers of guest.

We did mail in. We had a bunch of older guests who have no access to computers, so we thought that regular mail would be better. We had a pretty good response/return rate. Only had to phone/email a few guests.

We let the guest chose, we gave the option do do both. About 75% did it online and we only put stamps on the response cards for people who were not Internet savvy and we know would mail them back. Some people did choose to mail it back and use their own stamp but no one complained about that.

This is something I have been debating. Thanks for the good information. I think I will do both online and mail in RSVPs.
