Rehearsal Dinner RSVPs - reply by date needed?

ewg116, on July 18, 2017 at 6:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

FILs are hosting and we're only including our WP and family members to the Rehearsal Dinner. On the RD invite, do we need to specifically list out "RSVP by 'this date'"? Or can it just say "RSVP: phone number/e-mail"?

Personally I don't think we need an RSVP deadline for the RD because everyone invited is such a close-knit group.... Tried doing some research online but can't find anything. Does anyone know how it's traditionally done?

(Side note: the RD invites have already been ordered so it's probably too late to change it)

If it's too late to change the invitations, why bother asking?

Whether or not you need a reply date, depends on the venue/caterer. When do they need numbers?

There have been many threads about close family members not rsvp'ing to a wedding invitation. I don't know why an RD would be any different for them.

Honestly if it's just WP and family members, you could have just skipped the invites all together. Since you already ordered them, I don't think they need a reply by date. Word of mouth should tell you if they're coming or not.

I haven't approved the invite proof yet, so I could change it and add the deadline date if I need to. Just curious which way is traditionally how it's done. Most family members are flying in and have already booked flights/hotels, venue numbers aren't an issue so I'm not worried about it- just curious as to what the etiquette, more specifically southern etiquette, is on this.
