Registering for a home office printer?

Claudia, on November 30, 2015 at 3:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Hello! I have a registry question. My fiancé and I already live together so have a lot of items. We are planning on upgrading some things and adding some more things (but can only do so much in a small apartment without a lot of storage) - So, we are trying to think outside the box on some things to register for. What would your thoughts be on registering for a printer? Like a computer printer. It's something we need and it's for the home, but is that tacky? I've never heard of anyone registering for that specific item before but I thought why not, when people register for lamps and things. We are planning on doing an Amazon registry so we should be able to find one to register for there. However, I don't want people to think I'm taking advantage of a registry either by asking for something weird. Thanks for the input!

P.S. I realize it's too early to be registering for anything yet but I'm just brainstorming and making word doc lists on my own for fun right now Smiley smile

Not too early to register! Go for it! I think registering for a printer is a great idea if it's something you need. FH took it upon himself to register for a Christmas tree, haha.

I don't see a problem with it. It actually seems like a really practical item for the home, especially in today's world.

We registered about 16 months out (just didn't publicize it) because it was fun and we had the time to do it then. My mother made the comment that our registry had no rhyme or reason to it. I told her it was things that we wanted and would use. (I've owned my house for 16 years, so pretty well established there.) It should be the things you want. If someone doesn't want to buy it, they won't.

It's not too early to register. Some people will want to send gifts as soon as they hear you are engaged. I would say you should register soon actually. Also, I see zero problem with registering for a printer. A registry doesn't have to be typical kitchen and home goods these days. I have friends who registered for board games and camping gear!

I didn't know we should register after getting engaged. Guess thats why we got no gifts or cards. haha If I decide to do one beyond a charity registry it would be totally kooky to match the style of our fun apt decor!

I don't see an issue with it. Best Buy recently introduced registries, so you're clearly not alone. (:

As long as a gift is a household gift that runs along the same price point as other typical gifts I wouldn't bat an eyelash.

Now, if you asked for a laptop, I may have an opinion.

I find it interesting that when I asked if registering at 11 months out would be ok about 95% of the responses said that's way too early and we shouldn't do it more than 5-6 months in advance and on this post the responses say it's never too early! Just merely observing how responses change no big deal though Smiley smile I think registering for a printer is totally fine!

I think it's fine to register for a printer- or anything reasonable for the home- as Beth said, If you registered for a laptop I'd give a little side eye.

I also thought you register 4-6 months out... until I kept getting asked for a registry for engagement gifts. We put up a wide variety of things and will edit it as time goes on.

Also, you may want to change your avatar. The rings is often associated with trolls. And not the ones with fuzzy hair Smiley winking

Yes - register for a printer! I have printers on my registry. If I need it, it's on there. If people don't want to buy certain gifts, they don't have to Smiley smile If anything, if no one gets it for you, use that registry discount after the wedding!

Thank you for the feedback! I think I will go for it Smiley smile also, I was thinking of waiting on the registering because I heard that things often go out of stock. I'm not getting married until Nov. 2015. But I guess if I just keep an eye on it and update it then it should be okay! Oh and sorry about the troll pic! Haha. I didn't realize. I will go ahead and update it Smiley smile
