Refunds at David's Bridal

Katie, on February 14, 2015 at 1:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 42

I purchased a wedding dress at David's Bridal, and am having serious second thoughts about it. I tried on only one other dress... I felt beautiful in the dress at the time, but looking back at pictures now I see that it is not nearly as flattering as the sales person made me feel it was... That little bit of doubt has been made worse by a situation I am now dealing with... I apparently have to come pick up the dress by tomorrow. The VERY rude lady I spoke to this morning said she "didn't have space for it" and that if I didn't pick it up they would have to pack it in a box and stick it in their warehouse, and they might not be able to find it when it came time for my alterations appointment. WHAT??? So now I have doubts about this dress and I am pissed and don't want to give them any more of my business. From what I can see from other reviews they won't refund my purchase of the dress (I have not asked them for that yet). Does anyone have any recommendations?

David's Bridal doesn't give refunds...they will only do exchanges. I had to exchange my dress recently due to unforeseen circumstances. If there is a difference in price (where you would get money back) you have to spend it right then and there. they will not issue a credit. It's balls.

I should also add that I have an alterations appointment schedule with them March 28th. I have not tried on "my" dress since it came in, nor have I even seen it. There have been no alterations to it yet - it is in the exact same condition it came to them in... I haven't touched it - and as far as I know no one but their staff has either. I was led to believe when I ordered the dress that I needed to order it that day in order for it to be ready in time for my wedding, and that they would hold it in alterations until the week before the wedding.

If you do not want the dress, do not get it altered. they won't let you exchange it if anything has been done to the dress.

That is completely ridiculous. I could understand if it was a dress that had been altered/worn/etc. But that is just ridiculous.

No refunds. Only exchanges. You DO have the right to go try it on and inspect it. My advice to you is that whether you keep your original dress or exchange it for something else, take it out of there and bring it someplace else for alterations. That's just my opinion though

The thing is, because of their crappy service I definitely don't want to exchange it for another one of their dresses... If I'm stuck with a David's Bridal dress I would rather just keep the one I have and see if it can be altered to be more flattering. But there's no way I'm giving them more money. I'll have my alterations done elsewhere... Hopefully when I try it on tonight when I go to get it I fall in love with it again Smiley sad

Tell them you are not happy with the dress and that you would like to exchange it for something else and try on new dresses. That is what I had to do. it sucks, but it is better than being stuck with a dress you do not like.

Once a dress has been ordered and received, DB will only provide an exchange. That is if the dress has not been altered in any way. I would go to the salon and advise you are having second thoughts and are considering another dress.

FYI: This pertains to most, if not all, bridal salons.

You wouldn't be giving them more money if you are exchanging it unless you pick out a more expensive dress.

I understand your frustration. However, if I am not mistaken, this information is posted in the store and is also on your receipt.

The original person I had was a bitch and didn't want to help me because she didn't think i was going to buy something. When I went back in, I was going to request to not have her but she wasn't even working there anymore. Just request someone different. Don't make it more difficult than it has to be for you.

My doubts about the dress have just been made worse by the attitude of the sale staff. Don't get me wrong - the dress is beautiful. I've lost some weight since I originally tried it on, and I bet someone can alter it so the bits I don't like look the way I want. And maybe as soon as I try it on I'll feel the way I felt when I thought it was a good idea to drop over $1000 on it... But the fact that they were so unaccommodating and rude has just made me want to take my business elsewhere entirely.

I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, your only options at this point are to keep the dress, exchange the dress or start over somewhere else and hope that you can sell the dress you have an recoup some of your money.

I would send a letter to corporate that has to be signed for telling them what you told us, include her name, time you called, date all that good stuff so they know who it is.

if you've got a lawyer friend who can sign the letter or something, that could hold a lot more weight to. if she behaved the way you say she did, imo she's got no business working in a place like that. sometimes people have bad days and they aren't up to par, but I bet this is the kind of thing she does a lot.

as for your dress, I think you said it. you have serious doubts, you don't want to give them any more of your business, then don't, if you have other options.

if you have a way of getting another dress that you love, then do that. if you don't, then probably best to find out if you can get your dress without dealing with this woman again, and just take the memory of the experience and "release it to the universe"

but either way please contact corporate about what happened. if you don't, she'll probably just do this to another bride.

edit: just got he reminder that davids doesn't do returns and all that, but either way I would still contact corporate.

Other than their refund/exchange policy, how were they unaccommodating? Is it because they wanted you to pick up your dress? I was told I had a week to get mine. I see nothing wrong with that.

Agree Di. Katie, if that's your complaint, all bridal shop give you a certain amount of time to pick up your dress. I friend said 30 days is common for most salons.

If I understand your first post correctly, you have pictures of yourself wearing the dress (unaltered). Can you post them? The ladies here are very honest when a bride is having second thoughts about her dress and she is seriously considering buying something else. If DB offers exchanges and you really don't like the gown, then take your time finding the right gown. What you've described is the legacy of David's Bridal. Some brides have wonderful experiences with their consultants -- others are left feeling rushed and under valued as customers. Your bad experience could be clouding your judgment. I'd love to see photos of you in the gown, or at least the gown you selected.

Hate DB. No, there are no refunds, only exchanges and I have never heard of them agreeing to hold anyones dress until you had alterations done unless it was just a day or two.

Pick up the dress you picked. Talk to them about an exchange. They do not offer refunds. But go pick it up.
