Reducing cleavage (without alteration) - advice needed

Gwendolyn, on May 12, 2020 at 10:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hi!

I had my first fitting today and when looking at myself - I don't exactly like the amount of cleavage I have. My seamstress pointed out how nice it looked, but I just felt self-conscious instead, I've never liked having much of any. I might just be feeling crazy. I know I'm not going to be able to eliminate all of it, which is OK, but I really want to keep them locked in place.

She mentioned she could add lace to cover it up, but I would rather not alter it. She's removing the sewn in cups, since they are laughably small for me (34F/G). I am thinking tape might be the answer? The picture below shows what I'm working with. Would taping them in combination with removing the pads work? How would you tape, like a L? (Below and on the sides?) The back is sheer, so a bra is out of the question.

To me it looks okay, but I get what you mean. I am 4”7 with 28E. I asked to remove the pads and we will give a 2mm thin cup a try. If that still looks weird to me, I will wear nipple covers.

Did they think that removing the cups would eliminate some of the "squish"? Mine are very shaped inserts, which aren't at all the shape of me. I'm nervous about removing them because I also don't want the sports bra look going on. I didn't even think of just a different type of cup!

First off, I ADORE your dress!! I think you look absolutely gorgeous!! I'm also quite busty (an H cup) and I am 100% being honest when I say I really don't think you look like you have too much cleavage. I'm sure it feels that way, but I think you look very tasteful. I know I always feel like I look like I'm falling out of things when they're low cut and I'm usually not, so I wanted to let you know, it really doesn't look like you're about to fall out or like you're showing too much. I'm not sure if tape would help; you could definitely always try and see if it works! You should also FEEL good on your day. As someone who has struggled with having "the biggest boobs" I totally get where you're coming from. But I swear, you look amazing and there's no harm in embracing that!

I thought about trying the tape today at my fitting, but I was also nervous about taking forever playing with tape LOL. I'm going to try to get a technique down before I go in next.

That is really reassuring though. Part of getting this dress was the sheer neckline that I felt would hold me in so I don't have that fear all night that I'm going to lean forward and BOOM. I'm going to try to keep it in mind though and try to see the whole picture and not just boobs. Ugh. Thank you so much!

She is going to tighten my dress on the upper torso area to bring the girls closer. The original cups that came with the dress are push up cups and I look terrible with it. It looked pushed way too much up, and I just want a natural looking cleavage.

You look amazing. If changing the cups doesn’t help, let her put some lace appliqués on top. She’ll be able to pin a few to show you. It’s so easy and can create any amount of coverage you want while keeping the overall look in tact.

You look amazing!!!! Personally I think you're showing just enough, very classy but if you want more coverage adding the lacy on top would be beautiful too.

I’m having the same problem! 34G here and tried wearing plunge strapless dress but none fit me. I’m considering tape as well but I would have to do research

You look absolutely beautiful!! I think trying a different cup is your best bet to keep it looking natural, but also avoiding the pushed-up look you said you don't like. Let us know what you think with the new cups!
