Question about FS shaving for wedding day. Help!

Kelsey, on January 11, 2011 at 1:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Wasn't quite sure how to word the title without it sounding weird. Anyway, my FS has really sensitive skin and every time he shaves his face he gets razor burn and bleeds. He has tried every razor and shave gel combo that is known to man. He was thinking about going to get a professional straight blade shave the morning of the wedding. Does anyone have any input on the matter? I am just worried that he will be all cut up for our wedding day Smiley sad

Have him test it out way before hand to see how he reacts to it.

If he has never done the professional shave and not too sure of how that will work I would say to test that prior to the wedding as well. That way you at least will know what you are up against. If it turns out amazing, you will have 1 less thing to worry about! good luck

I'd second that. Have him test it out and see how it works for him prior to the wedding.

I think he should try it beforehand and see how it goes. Have you ever visited the shop "The art of shaving"? They have some great products for guys with sensitive skin. I recommend their shave soaps, as applied with an old school shaving brush. Awesome.

Instead of shaving...Have him wax his face! We ladies do it...why can't he? Has he tried an electric razor?

He has an electric razor, a really nice Norelco that I got him for Christmas but he doesn't use it much because his hair is so thick it is usually just a pre-shave to the razor shave lol. I think I will have him go and try it out. There is a Hair M literally less than a block away from the venue so it would be a perfect option if it works out.

I agree with doing a test run before the wedding. My dad had a shave at the art of shaving and he loved it.

My husband has a beard, and they trim it every time he get's his hair cut. Maybe when he is getting a haircut, he can have the stylist shave him? There is some type of gel that I actually bought for my eyebrows (but it is for men) that is supposed to help with that I think. I bought it at Sephora.

Oh, and my husband stood in a wedding a week before our wedding, and the groom did cut himself shaving, and my husband said he was wearing a bandaid- in the very few photo's i've seen from that wedding, I cannot see the bandaid. Anyways, I'd imagine he'll be pretty nervous that day, and it might would be best if someone else could do it for him. But I would do a trial with it, as many brides do for their updo's.

"The Art of Shaving" is a great shop, highly recommend them. I have super sensitive skin also, and an electric razor is the worst for me. My neck breaks out like mad if I use it.

However, since I switched to a single blade Merkur handle with Proraso shaving cream, I don't have any problems with razor burn. All this marketing, 3, 4, 5 blades is pure crap. You don't need all of those blades. A good weighted handle, and a nice sharp blade with great cream and you're set. That tube of Proraso lasts me about 9-10 months. A 100 pack of blades is like $15. So not only is it more effective at shaving, but it saves a TON of money. I always recommend this as a great gift for a man!

Kelsey, if you remember to could you please come back and update us after your FS gets the shave? My FS has the same problem - it's so bad he sometimes only shaves once a week and it looks bad because he doesn't have a full beard or anything - it's super patchy! If it works for your man, I may suggest it to mine.

And Matt, could you possible give me more details about single blade, old school shaving? My FS mentioned maybe wanting to try it and his birthday is coming up - so it could make a nice usable gift!

    Handle (one I have): http://tinyurl.com/4s68e22

    Proraso cream: http://tinyurl.com/45owxxv

    Blades: http://tinyurl.com/47yjxq7

It's a fabulously close shave. By the end of the day, my face feels like it did when was freshly shaved with the 4 blade system from the big makers.

So would I also have to buy a badger hair brush for the cream?

This is so confusing! Lady shaving is easier Smiley smile At least I know what to buy!

My FS has this problem and has recently tried using Bump Patrol. He bought it at Target. It is a liquid you put on right after you shave and it helps him not get as bad of a rash. It has alcohol in it so it burns for a second when he puts it on but it has helped tremendously.

A professional straight blade would work really well my hubby never got razor bumps when the barber shaved him now unfortunately there is no barber in our area that does it so he uses regular razors. I would go try www.artofshaving.com they have good products and advice

And let us know how the professional shave goes if he tries it out. If it works I might recommend it to FS too.

Like the others recommend... have him go to a professional for a "shave trial" and make sure it will work. He may just have to shave a few days before and deal with a little stubble. It would look better than ground beef if he gets really bad razor burn and cuts.

I will most definitely update everyone on how things turn out Smiley smile.
