Quaker Wedding Certificates--- anyone??

Private User, on July 15, 2013 at 12:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Anyone have a quaker wedding and/or certificate? trying to get the wording on mine right but the only example i can find is really traditional and i want to make it more personal too. Any ideas?

For those of you who are curious... Its a certificate used during the ceremony that usually has the names and date and a part of or all of the vows said and then it is signed by the bride and groom after vows and rings are exchanged. After the ceremony, everyone present is asked to bear witness and sign the certificate as well so it really makes a meaningful and beautiful piece of art the couple can cherish forever in their home. google image it.. there are some amazing ones!

You may google non-traditional/secular ketubah text to get some ideas. Like this:

I don't have one, but have been to a few wedding with them since I am in PA where you can still get a self-uniting Quaker cert! Unfortunately, most of the wording was traditional so I'm not much help there. Barbara has a good idea though!

Check your Yearly Meeting's Faith & Practice for sample wording.

I know I'm late to the party, but in case others have the same question, we did a Quaker-style wedding certificate, not because we're Quaker but because we love the tradition of having all of our guests sign and having a piece for our wall to commemorate the day. We still cherish it and love having it up, 6 years later Smiley smile

The artist who did ours is Sally Sanders:

She had lots of good advice about wording and all things related to the certificate, really. She's done hundreds of these so has seen a lot of different ways to go about it. She is amazingly talented and so great to work with! I would recommend seeing if she can help.
