PSA: Flagging non-vios is Flagging Abuse...

MNA, on October 14, 2016 at 8:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 61

...and is against the Community Guidelines.

You cannot flag a post because:

-You disagree with it

-You don't like it

-You become butthurt by it

-You are offended by it

-You think it is "harsh," "mean," or "rude"

-There is no name calling, personal attacks (and no, telling someone their idea sucks does not qualify), stalking, etc

Posts to flag:

-Advertising

-Posts that include name calling (again, as the Mods have stated many times, calling an IDEA stupid is okay, calling a PERSON stupid is NOT!)

-posts that are personal attacks

-posts that tell someone not to post/how to post

-posts that tell people to leave

-"Bye Felicia" posts, UNLESS they are directed to someone who has announced they are leaving

-posts that announce the person is leaving

Flagging non-vio posts is a strikeable offense, so keep that in mind.

Regulars: Feel free to email mods at community@weddingwire.com about the unreasonable flags, as they CAN see who has done the flagging and take action, esp. on serials.

Thanks for the post MNA, I'll definitely try writing to them. I feel that a lot of the regulars have good information that is being shut down which is asinine.

Idk what's going on, but this site now seems to have a slot if special snowflakes. They don't like being told the honest truth.

    I appreciate this post!

Would also add, if your comment is flagged for a personal attack, you don't need to hide your thread....just hide your rude comment. Have seen that happen a few times now, too.

How can you see if you've been flagged?

What will eventually happen is that people with good, solid advice will stop posting because they sick of putting effort into answering questions that get hidden or answers that get flagged because they're truthful.

Face it. Some ideas are horrible. It's really an act of kindness for people here to tell you before your family endures your wedding and talks behind your back.

@Kimmy: on a computer or in a mobile browser, the post slot will still have your avatar, but the post itself will be hidden, and it will say that "This post was hidden by the WW community." If it was hidden via flagging. If it was hidden by the mods it says something about breaking community guidelines.

Just bumping this and adding a quick reminder: Just because a post is hidden by the author, does NOT mean that the Mods cannot see/review it, which means flagging *actual* attacks and name calling is even more important to stress here.

Sort of like the little situation earlier, that I emailed a screenshot of to the mods. I also recommend doing that if the poster is likely to hide their post, to help facilitate the mods in their work. Smiley laugh

    @FMR what personal attacks ?

    Edit:

Also, accusing someone of personal attacks when none were made is not okay.

MNA gives great advice. I'm guessing from your negativity FMR you are doing something rude and wanted people to tell you it's okay to treat your guests terribly and then received advice against it.

@MNA, thank you for that clarification.

I know that is why a certain poster hid her thread. I flagged, then was responding only to find it was hidden.

I appreciate the brutal honesty here. I'm pretty sure I know which thread this happened in and I was trying to figure out why things got flagged that were posted by 5 stars. I was pretty sure you guys wouldn't break guidelines.

MNA is great and I doubt that's what actually happened.
