PS4 as a wedding gift for FH? Would you?

Kemmie, on November 8, 2014 at 7:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

I want to get my FH something special that he'll love. Tonight he mentioned he is hoping to buy a PS4 after the wedding. Part of me wants to get him it as a wedding gift but at the same time it's some thing that becomes obsolete in a few years and not something he can show to our kids say and say "This is the watch your mother gave to me on our wedding day."

Would you get a gift for your FH that you know he will really enjoy even if not forever? Or would you get him a more timeless forever gift?

I'd want a PS4 for my wedding! Then I could buy an XBox One and stop trying to decide between the two. I'm not even getting my FH anything except for me, but if I was I'd probably go for something he could use now. My FH isn't one to keep things for very long so getting him something timeless wouldn't work for us.

Personally no. I like that he will have cufflinks forever that remind him of our wedding.

Well I am probably the wrong person to ask because we didn't even exchange wedding gifts. BUT, I am getting him a PS4 for Christmas lol

You could do the PS4 and maybe something small he could have forever? Im doing boudoir photos and putting it in an album. Its cute fun and inexpensive, something the FH will be sure to love. Thier girl and video games, can't go wrong with that!

Lol absolutely. You obvi know him best, but if I got H a ps4 I would be wife of the year in his eyes. I'm more sentimental... For our wedding he bought me diamond stud earrings, which I wore for our ceremony. He wanted a pair of oakleys, so that's what he got Smiley smile

No because he would be so excited about it that it would take me forever to drag his mind back to the wedding! Lol

It's a great gift. We have one and we use it to watch DVDs and stream Netflix, etc.

Seriously, get the PS4-- that watch, the cufflinks, etc,, etc, are going to sit unused 99% of the time. Yes, they might be around at the golden anniversary (or might easily have been lost in a move....) but they won't be enjoyed one bit as much. And, if you really want something to treasure forever, take a picture of him playing with his PS4-- he can frame it and tell kids, "This is what your mom got me-- this is what video games looked like back then."

I agree with Zoe! The PS4 would be an awesome gift and would get used way more than a "keepsake" type of gift. And if you wanted to, you could get some games (or blu-rays) that you like as well and spend some quality time in with your new husband using it!

I seem to be in the minority here but that just seems silly to me. Just get it for him for Christmas or his birthday or something! That's like him getting you a purse or a new sweater for your wedding gift.

I would, and might steal this idea. Mine doesn't care about jewelry and works on a dock so cufflinks he wouldn't even use. If I cant afford Colts Tickets, I might steal your idea.

No, I would not, because it's $400 and if I have $400 extra near my wedding, I would be spending it elsewhere.

But....we're also not giving each other gifts because again.....that's money that could be spend on our honeymoon.

I'd do it. I like the idea of taking a pic of him with it and framing it for the future, lol.

I bought DH new bed slats as a wedding gift. Now that I think about it, that sounds like we broke the old ones, which isn't what happened, haha. DH bought the bed when he moved into our old apartment and since he was spending so much money at the same time, he went for the cheapest slats to go under the mattress. 2 years later, when we got married, his back was bothering him and the slats weren't helping, so I bought him nicer ones that are adjustable and more supportive.

I think the pictures would be super cool to show future generations! I'd do it. Maybe if our wedding wasn't so close to Christmas.

Also, what does timeless really mean anyway? Sure, you could get a standard pocket watch or handkerchief, but to me, that wouldn't be any more interesting to show your children or grandchildren...
