Professional makeup worth it?

Lauren, on September 17, 2015 at 11:04 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

I'm trying to decide whether or not to spring for professional makeup... I want to go with a natural look (my FH hates the heavy makeup look—and I'm not great with makeup so I go really light on it usually), but I'm worried my usual look won't photograph well. What's your experience? If you got professional makeup application, was it worth it? If you didn't, how did you feel about it on the day of? Thanks!!

I am someone who is very good at doing my own makeup but the day of my wedding I will not chance it. Me personally, I highly recommend hiring a professional makeup artist... They're not as expensive as one would think, and most good MUAs can do any look you want. Plus, most MUAs usually set up a trial run a month or 2 before the wedding so that they are prepared the day of your wedding.

For such an important day, go for it. You want to look great in person and on film, it needs to last through the night (and tears, and laugher and kissing). Definitely do a trial so you get a look that looks like you only a bit amped up.

When I did the Colin Cowie event, Elizabeth Arden had a whole makeup room set up and they took one look at me a plunked me into a chair, lol....They didn't do a lot, but I looked better than I ever do in anyone's photos, lol!

    Go for it!

    Absolutely.

Not because I want to look the best, but. I wear make up only a few times a year as is so, I'm not exactly a pro haha.

I normally don't wear any makeup but have a professional doing my makeup for engagement photos and my wedding. A professional makeup artist will be able to make your makeup look natural but stand out on camera so you look amazing. It is definitely worth it.

My MUA was 100% worth it. I feel pretty confident doing my own makeup, but I am by no means a professional and I wanted it to look perfect. I also wanted to be sure my makeup wasn't going anywhere in the humidity. I was so relaxed all morning while getting ready and I don't think I would have been if I had to worry about doing my own makeup. All I was responsible for that morning was taking a shower and getting to the venue. It was fantastic.

It is definitely worth it even just for the staying power. I had my makeup done for a trial/engagement pictures and ten hours later, I still looked like I did as soon as she finished. I've never been able to pull that off with my own makeup (though I'm not that skilled.)

It's definitely worth it!!! I never wear makeup. Never. So I told the girl that i wanted a nice natural look. I thought the eyes were a little much at first, but when I snapped a picture of it I could see why. My eyes are so tiny and disappear when I smile so she used fake eyelashes and the makeup and I am so glad I did it. I looked like one of those pretty brides in the magazines (well I think I did anyway).

I am not good at applying makeup at all. I will spend the money on my hair and makeup. I will have those pictures forever and want to not take any chances.

Definitely worth it! I had a trial 2 months before the wedding so we could iron out my look. She did an incredible job day of wedding! It seemed a little heavy day of wedding and she and my daughter both reminded me that it needs to be heavier to show in pictures. From the photos I have seen so far, they were totally right! So don't shy away from letting the MUA go a little heavier. The makeup stayed in place all day and night! Totally worth what I paid for it!

So worth it! I wear makeup on a daily basis but it's pretty natural.

The FH's family had some pictures done a month or so ago and I did my own makeup. I thought it looked great in person but when we got the pictures back, I looked washed out, pale, tired even. The makeup artist can give you a look that will look natural and feel like you aren't wearing any makeup at all, it's their job.

I love doing my own makeup, but I booked out my MUA for the whole day of and popped for all my BMs makeup as well. The MUA will be available for touchups all day and night. That being said, she works with my best friend so I've known her a while and wanted her to be at my wedding anyway. She's super fun!

In the end, my rationale was that FH and I paid a fortune for our pics and I want everyone to look amazing in them, not just me! Good luck!

I'm a firm believer in treating yourself on your wedding day. If I could afford it and there was a professional to do it I hired them.

Do it. You can get a pro natural look that will stay all night respite the tears, laughters, and sweat. My brides who went DIY for makeup ended up looking really shiny at the end of the night, no matter how great their skin was naturally!

Our photographer is also doing my make up for the day because she is a also a pageant girl so she has had to do her make up professionally for the Miss America pageant. Plus I've seen here work and love it Smiley smile she made it part of our package for the day

I agree with Julia! I always do my own makeup and hair if I'm a bridesmaid (I have many, many HMUA friends and they teach me their ways) but I won't be doing my own hair or makeup for my own wedding. If you can afford it, pamper yourself! Smiley laugh

I wear make up on a daily basis, but i'm still doing professional. Mine is costing $30 for my application, so really, I can splurge on it and know that I'll look better than if i did it myself. Also, make sure you do a trial. I did one and my eyes were so darkly lined, i know not to do that again!
