Printing envelopes...

Megan, on June 13, 2012 at 7:20 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6

There was a discussion earlier today about printing envelopes or printing labels.... I'm not fond of the labels for the outside of our invites (I'm absolutely doing it for the RSVP's because it's not a first impression anymore). However... I'm having trouble getting the envelopes to go through my printer... it keeps reading that it cant find the paper. Any tips??

I had that same problem with my STDs, ended up handwriting them all. Did you set up your printing by the size of the envelope? maybe it is too small? That was my issue.

It's really strange. Everything is the correct size but it's just not working. I still have time to do this, but I figured that if I got a headstart on it, I wouldn't be as stressed. Good thing FH is studying, otherwise there would be two of us screaming in the office haha. Thanks for you tip though!

I had to really fight with my printer for the envelopes. I had to tweak exactly how I fed them for it to take them and it took a while to "master" my printer. There were many times that it wouldn't feed through and the printer would think there was a jam. When you print, make sure you are choosing envelope as your type of paper. That seemed to help mine a little bit once my DH pointed it out, so I don't know if the printer attempts to grab the paper differently. Also don't put too many envelopes in at once. Mine worked better when I only did like max 5 envelopes in the tray at a time.

I know what you mean, I was dropping F-bombs left and right. Going to try again when my invites come in...better work this time or the printer is going out the window! GL

You go into your printer settings and add the paper size, it should be labeled "Custom Size". 5X7 envelopes are called A7, 8.5x5.5 are A9, 4x6 are A6. Most printers allow you to put them in at a different orientation (flap on the left, right, top or bottom. It is my experience with an HP printer that it works best with the flap on the top, that way it doesn't get caught in the wheels that pull the paper through.

The struggles I had to get my envelopes printed!!! I was ready to throw the thing through the wall, let me tell you! First I didn't have any program to print the envelopes the right size, then I got a copy of Word from my parents and was able to get the size right but the paper either kept getting stuck or wouldn't "find the edge" or just not suck it in at all!! It was even more frustrating because the printer was in another room of the house (why, I have no idea lol) so I had to keep running from room to room lol!!

Anyway, it took me almost 2 days to get 21 invitations sent out. Try smoothing all the edges down with your fingers a few times before putting it in and same with the flap on the back. If I didn't, they would get stuck every time!

It was a complete hassle but I was determined to get the envelopes printed out with fancy font, and the end result was really worth it, I ordered custom return labels and got the bridal stamps from the P.O. and it looks great!
